Kotaku sums up Destiny player burn-out

http://kotaku.com/five-months-in-hardcore-destiny-players-are-hitting-a-1684813586 This is not a bash. It comes from someone who, like many of us, really likes Destiny but is reaching a point of burn-out. The things that popped out to me are the lack of carrots and poor communication from Bungie. If you trawl the forums, you'll find many threads dedicated to each point made, but this is a handy summation of the frustration hardcore Destiny players are, and have been, facing of late. I'm no hater, and like Kirk, the article's author, I know there's an unbelievable game inside Destiny. I'm looking forward to HoW, but until then, it'll just have to be a strike now and again. Edit 1: You guys all rock. It's been a very clear-headed conversation in here so far, aside from some weak trolls. And thanks for the bumps! I think it's good to read what a lot of us have been thinking. Edit 2: I'm pretty sure the forum ninjas have buried any Kotaku-related posts so they don't trend. That's their prerogative, and somewhat understandable despite the normal levels of vitriol you can generally find on these forums. Feel free to bump if you think others should read it but, after over twenty-four hours of pretty constant replies from you crazy, magnificent bastards, it's fair to say that we don't need an article to spur healthy discussion about one of our favorite games.
You guys are -blam!-ing killing my phone.
I had made a half hearted analogy on a different forum thread earlier this week but after reading the Kotaku article it does tend to fit the scenario rather aptly. Destiny for many of us had the same experience as picking up the Husk of the Pit weapon for the first time. Excitement of finally unleashing this weapon on the plethora of enemies that stood before it. Sure it wasn’t everything that we would have like from a weapon, somewhat underwhelming but the promise was there. If we kept with it we could improve the base weapon to new unknown potential. Through application of embalming orbs courtesy of the Dark Below, we took our husk of a game and upgraded it to the Ediolon Ally. Once again our faith was renewed, the once empty shell had new life breathed into it, the weapon was more bearable (slightly) and still held that notion of greater things to come from its potential. Its wielders once again captivated with its potential to become something even better kept many stalwart guardians on the verge of retirement, encouragement to continue the fight. We stand on the precipice of the weapons final evolution for many guardians, House of Wolves will provide the final crux to our weapon that is Destiny. Many of us have high expectations of what this Necrochasm of a game will offer. The hype that sustained the vast majority all this time is coming to a close, where words will no longer suffice. The weapon will need to blow everything away and make us feel truly legendary. There in lies the problem of Destiny, those who have the Necrochasm already know that it failed to live up to expectations. Yes there are those who will stand by it but for many guardians out there, it is reduced to nothing more than a mantle piece decoration to tell tales of “I once played with that weapon”. What’s more is the notion that with each “update” they seemingly kill off the desire of many more. The weapon and game already underwhelming will further receive a debuff because of that old phrase that goes hand in hand with great Destiny lines; “Its not how we intended you to play our game”. I don’t even have the time to explain the wave of negative emotions felt by many guardians out there. One phrase that Bungie should take to heart should be this one; “Do you intend for us to play your game much longer?” With the strength of upcoming game titles in 2015 around the same time they expect us to pay for comet and another season pass. This House of Wolves DLC has better take this Ediolon Ally of a game and upgrade it into a Gjallahorn if it expects continued investment in this franchise. I for one am finding it increasingly difficult to maintain a regular fire team as members lose the will to continue the fight and I am losing the will to constantly find new regular members.
