Kotaku sums up Destiny player burn-out

http://kotaku.com/five-months-in-hardcore-destiny-players-are-hitting-a-1684813586 This is not a bash. It comes from someone who, like many of us, really likes Destiny but is reaching a point of burn-out. The things that popped out to me are the lack of carrots and poor communication from Bungie. If you trawl the forums, you'll find many threads dedicated to each point made, but this is a handy summation of the frustration hardcore Destiny players are, and have been, facing of late. I'm no hater, and like Kirk, the article's author, I know there's an unbelievable game inside Destiny. I'm looking forward to HoW, but until then, it'll just have to be a strike now and again. Edit 1: You guys all rock. It's been a very clear-headed conversation in here so far, aside from some weak trolls. And thanks for the bumps! I think it's good to read what a lot of us have been thinking. Edit 2: I'm pretty sure the forum ninjas have buried any Kotaku-related posts so they don't trend. That's their prerogative, and somewhat understandable despite the normal levels of vitriol you can generally find on these forums. Feel free to bump if you think others should read it but, after over twenty-four hours of pretty constant replies from you crazy, magnificent bastards, it's fair to say that we don't need an article to spur healthy discussion about one of our favorite games.
You guys are -blam!-ing killing my phone.
• I will stop the second I get that Vex, but for now, this isn't about gaming or fun. This has long become personal and if I ever meet a Bungie employee, I will slap him in the face. Not to hurt him and not to hard to cause any permanent damage, but just for sharing some of the pain Destiny gives me. I also say "Go -blam!- yourself, Bungie" and "You really screwed that one up", but I can't accept the fact, I just don't get that Vex. It's personal now and it will stay like that!

    • I dont know what was happening last night but we just had bug after bug. lamps werent taking off the weight of darkness (on the last 2 lamps) and the bridge hadnt formed even though it said it had (why most people were dead after walking on it) https://account.xbox.com/en-gb/gameclip/031421a0-41ed-4ece-b59f-e1c383a8fab7?gamerTag=THEHORNYBULL&scid=37770100-f9ae-4b80-9dad-7c1d0ec14469 jumping, disappearing, invincible Gatekeeper https://account.xbox.com/en-gb/gameclip/a4250b97-2ae7-4afd-8b7a-e8d76f501208?gamerTag=Xx%20RAINM4N%20xX&scid=37770100-f9ae-4b80-9dad-7c1d0ec14469 on the walkway I had the shrieker wall stay up even after I had killed the first one, similar things happened on the deathsinger Crota instantly standing up, shield not going down. Gave up in the end, was a waste of time. The game has become so frustrating when you get shafted by bugs. I might take a break, I think my regular fireteam feels the same

        • I love Destiny, I'm a huge fan of the lore and gameplay but I feel that Bungie's held back on what they could have done with this universe's potential. I'm hoping they're holding content back so they just don't run out of ideas...

          • I thought this was a heartfelt, constructive and we'll written article, very close to truth for a lot of players whom I game with.

          • I agree with the article I took a week off and came back today. Did Crota normal on my hunter and got TWO NLB (4th and 5th total). I then did Crota on my warlock and got my 4th universal remote and another NLB (total of 6). I can't get helmets for either or hunger of Crota but I can get THREE NLBs in the span of a two hour and a 4th Universal Remote! This is why it's dull and stale and frustrating. I have invested hundreds of hours and love a lot about this game but today was frustrating. You can't get what you need/want but you get stuff you don't want in spades. I look forward to the HoW and especially comet but I'm now more inclined to take more time off.
When I try to step back and understand why my feelings have shifted, I can only come back to that old Destiny problem: There's not enough to do.
This statement resonates more then any others. One more thing, thinking you're going to kill a boss in another attempt or two, but taking six more hours, isn't new to raiding, happens in WoW all the time. But the difference is in WoW that's because fights are so tightly tuned that it takes that long before everyone doesn't make a mistake. In destiny it takes that long because the CE is shit designed and bugs ruin half of all attempts. Edit: Oh and I agree, I'm tired of Deej basically taking thinly veiled shots at us in every update, why is the only great post from Bungie on neogaf?

              • Yeah, wore out. RNGesus smiled on me regarding weapons but smited me on armor. I've run CE a dozen times give or take on all three of my characters and the one character I like the most (Titan) has still yet to get a piece of raid armor. I like Destiny but I'm suffering from grind fatigue. A part of me feverishly wants to get my Titan to 32 but I think the rational side of me is saying "Hey guy, take a break. House of Wolves is around the corner. Try again then and for now take a breather. Play something else." Im finally starting to listen to that part of me. House of Wolves will be it for me. I've already paid for it so why not. I have such a huge back log of games. Mordor, AC Unity, GTAV and now Evolve ;)

              • There's plenty to do in destiny but it's called grinding bounties to upgrade gear and weapons which stopped being fun a while ago. However I'm still having fun on the raids with my clan mates.

              •
They've screwed up enough things recently that we're going to need some specific reassurance that speaks directly to our concerns and doesn't waste our time. To that end, Bungie would be well-served by more Luke Smith-type updates, and fewer bullshitty jokes about the Cryptarch. Maybe they could even put those updates on the company blog, instead of posting to gaming forums in the dead of night. Crazy idea, I know.
No shit. The weekly updates have just been filled with pandering and vagueness. Those sorts of weekly updates were supposed to disappear after Destiny released. Seriously- they were supposed to be GONE. And what happened? They got worse. It has been awful. Rare is the actual useful tidbit in the official update. Too rare.

I bought Destiny about 4 days after it was released, I then left Destiny in early November when CoD came out (CoD's always been my main game, but since I liked Halo I gave Destiny a shot). I guess you could say I hit an early burn-out stage and was just frustrated with my VoG/Nightfall drops and the whole PvP aspect. When I left I only had 1 character which was a level 29 warlock. After 2-3 months of CoD (around mid January) I decided to go back to Destiny to see what transpired over those few months. Once I logged in everything felt new again and it was honestly very refreshing. I watched Youtube videos to see how "The Dark Below" was and after liking what I saw I bought it. Since then I have had a vex mytho drop for me, a Vision of Confluence, and most of the highly sought after Crota Weapons (Blackhammer, WoC, Abyss Defiant, etc.) I also spent a week leveling up 2 alts, one being a titan and the other a hunter. I'm now having more fun with Destiny than I did at launch and I think its because of the break I took. I can't see how anyone who plays Destiny as their primary game cannot be burned out by now. I'd suggest take a break and come back.

                  • Basically sums everything up very nicely. Hope Bungie get around to reading this, though I know they won't do anything about it. There are very few incentives left in Destiny to keep people who have been playing for a while interested any more.

                      • This happens to every game when you play it with too hard pace. No game can withstand 500 hours of gameplay in 5 months. My advice is to take it easy. I dont have that many raid completions on Crota yet and it still feels exciting and new!

                          • I can't believe how little the community seems to give a shit about HoW getting pushed... We all payed real money for that and on one seems to have even noticed... Wtf? When Xur sold the Icebreaker everyone lost their mind, but Bungie withholds a product we've paid for already, and it's the sound of silence.
