Kotaku sums up Destiny player burn-out

http://kotaku.com/five-months-in-hardcore-destiny-players-are-hitting-a-1684813586 This is not a bash. It comes from someone who, like many of us, really likes Destiny but is reaching a point of burn-out. The things that popped out to me are the lack of carrots and poor communication from Bungie. If you trawl the forums, you'll find many threads dedicated to each point made, but this is a handy summation of the frustration hardcore Destiny players are, and have been, facing of late. I'm no hater, and like Kirk, the article's author, I know there's an unbelievable game inside Destiny. I'm looking forward to HoW, but until then, it'll just have to be a strike now and again. Edit 1: You guys all rock. It's been a very clear-headed conversation in here so far, aside from some weak trolls. And thanks for the bumps! I think it's good to read what a lot of us have been thinking. Edit 2: I'm pretty sure the forum ninjas have buried any Kotaku-related posts so they don't trend. That's their prerogative, and somewhat understandable despite the normal levels of vitriol you can generally find on these forums. Feel free to bump if you think others should read it but, after over twenty-four hours of pretty constant replies from you crazy, magnificent bastards, it's fair to say that we don't need an article to spur healthy discussion about one of our favorite games.
You guys are -blam!-ing killing my phone.
• Great article. The part that I agree with most is about the fixing of things that players don't really want fired, yet ignoring the huge bugs affecting all players. I mean come on Bungie--making auto rifles and hand cannons worse is more important than vault space??? My PSN friends list has dwindled down to a single page playing Destiny, when it used to be 3-4 pages easily. I started and power leveled a second character and it just felt like a chore. Don't know if I want to spend the time doing that for a third, especially because I can't fricking skip cutscenes. My group is still online on Tuesdays, but it gets pretty sporadic after that. Pretty soon I think even Tuesdays will be desolate as well.

        • Why does everyone think this game was designed to be played 24/7? I realised (too late at about 500 hours) that it is a lot more fun to actually enjoy playing it. You have only 9 things you really must do a week (3×raid, nightfall and weekly) anything else for me is done after work, gym, spending time with friends and family. I'd leave this game if to keep up (I can now have 3×32's) I had to play every night. I can't think of anything worse.

Totally sums up my feelings. What really got me was today I did the nightfall and got 8 ascendant shards. Not only that but the other 2 people in my fireteam got ascedant enegry in the amounts of 5 and 12..... I will not be playing much at all until HoW.

When did it become the "thing" to play 1 game an insane amount of hours till you're burnt out than complain about being burnt out? For gods sake, mix it up, play other games.

              • Thats a perfect summary of what the game has become.. Bugs, artificially inflated difficulty and repetitive gloom. I'm super exited for what this game CAN become, but if it doesn't get there or at least show that its on the right track in due time, i like many others will shelf it for other worthwhile games. Oh and please immature kids tell me how much i wont be missed. Have fun playing destiny with a dwindling player base.

              • Read it earlier today and realized it is exactly how I've felt the last week or so. I wish Bungie would hire the two guys at Kotaku that love Destiny as consultants. They'd be well-served.

              • I'm one of those players who stick to games for year(s) (haven't even tried WoW so no, im not a WoW player) and support companies by buying their expansions/dlc's if they're worth while (GW1 did the expansions the right way). I quit 2 weeks ago and the money Bungie would've gotten from me will never be received. I was so disappointed with Destiny that i will never even try giving Destiny 2 a chance. Destiny series as a whole is on my "go f*ck yourself" list and that's never changing. Congrats bungie you lost hundreds of dollars from me alone. i would've bought all Destiny dlc/expansions and Destiny sequels if you weren't this f*ckedup and tried to rip everyone off. Destiny is a running joke of the gaming industry, be proud of your achievement, Bungie.

This article is 100 percent truth. The carrot is getting moldy. Why does Bungie address gaming forums instead of its own site? Fix things that help the game instead of the things that hurt the player. Weighted drops. The loot system is already garbage, yet I can get half a dozen garbage exotics or multiple duplicates of what I already have. Where is my Gjallarhorn? Where is my Heart of Praxic Fire? Where is my Black Hammer you claim your smart loot system takes into account? Bungie states Xur is random, yet we see repeated evidence that he is not. If he is random, he would have sold the gjallarhorn again. He would have sold the Heart of Praxic fire once. Lies. While the evidence is crystal clear, players still defend an unfinished game, and a shady, lying company. I was outraged when they added a new currency that you have to grind more for. I was outraged that I had to relevel all of my exotics again. What do I do about all the ascendant shards and energy now? Can I trade them in for radiants? Seems to me they should have thought about this better. Yes, yes, they admitted their mistakes, but it's too little too late. This article really opened my eyes. Bungie better program Xur to randomly sell the Gjallarhorn this Friday or they are going to continue to lose players. This should be a wake up call for them, but Bungie just doesn't give a shit. Neither do I.

There's not enough content in the world to feed the Destiny players appetite.

                      • Great article pretty much nailed every key points that needed to be made. Well thought out and no pointless bashing. I had the same experience when I played Runescape a few years ago. It was a great game, but once you have done everything you can only do so much repetitive activities before you quit until more comes out or you move on. I'll most likely only play for the weeklies, but I'm starting to see a decline in my friends playing which is making it harder for me to log on

                      • I have every weapon from the raid now except hunger of Crota, which i am farming normal mode for each week. I am debating whether or not to do hard Crota for the ship and sparrow, which I probably will, but im starting to lose motivation since hard mode usually takes at least 2 hours for a full clear.

                      • This is exactly how I feel. I don't even want to go home after work to do the nightfalls. I used to rush to get home to do it so perhaps a self imposed break is needed. Log in to see if xur stops being an ass but that's it.
