help with PvP

I see a lot of people asking for advice, marveling at the ability of others or just referring to themselves as a poor player. I want to create a guide that people can reference to tap into their full potential as a PvP participant. This is not meant to be judgmental in anyway and everything that follows are my own personal opinions from my experience in FPS games. First and foremost, familiarize yourself with the general and specific mechanics of each class and the game itself. [b][u]1[/u][/b]. [b][u]Map Awareness:[[/u][/b] Whenever I play an FPS online game I always scope out the layout of the maps. Both in game and if an eagle-eye view is available. This allows me to understand the geometry that I am working with. Line of sight, choke and capture points, high traffic areas, etc. This is crucial. An opponent that is more familiar with his surroundings has less to think about and can thusly act quicker than you can. [u][b]2[/b][/u]. [u][b]Sensitivity:[/b][/u] Sensitivity is unique for everyone. Personally, I play on the higher end of the spectrum which allows me more mobility and responsiveness. However, faster isn't always better. You need to find which sensitivity fits your play-style. I would recommend trying to progress towards a higher sensitivity when you become more confident as it does allow more freedom in your play. [b][u]3. Load-out[/u][/b]: Preparation for the match is just as important as your in game execution. Seeing as how Destiny has no true predecessor, this task becomes a bit more challenging. Personally, I base most of my decisions on obvious things like what I have available to use in terms of gear and weapons. However, you can think through it even more. For example, if I want more of an up-front approach I am going to rely on my shotgun and assault rifle while sticking to enclosed areas, controlling a special ammo spawn point and working small, angled routes within a structure or area. Vice versa, if I want to control longer "lanes" or vantage points I will run with a Scout rifle as opposed to my Assault rifle. I still like running with a shotgun if I'm going for this kind of approach as it allows for more utility when pinned down where a sniper rifle is, in my opinion redundant when I have a Scout rifle equipped. Heavy weapons are situational. Rocket Launchers and Machine Guns have their own merits. Find a good one and get comfortable with it. [b][u]4. Anticipation / Map movement[/u][/b]: Being able understand basics routes on each map is a foundation to start from. See where people usually go. Understand how they got there, why they went there. Find a way to position yourself to either attack the situation or take a defensive line of sight. But you need to try and dictate their movements. To be able to control the flow of a match you need to be decisive and unpredictable. Adapt to the situation. Take note of your opponent's routines and favored spots and lanes. Understanding how someone thinks and how they execute that concept is the most useful skill that you can learn in a PvP setting. [b][u]5. Communication / context clues[/u][/b]: Another staple to becoming an accomplished PvPer is constant communication with your teammates. Knowledge of the map is priceless. Creating a camaraderie with your teammates allows for a heightened level of anticipation and confidence. If you find yourself on a team without mics or one that refuses to communicate you can use your teammates as a buffer between you and the enemy. Let them die or take point so you can gather the information you need to make informed decisions. [u][b]Summary:[/b][/u] [b]-[/b]Learn your surroundings. [b]-[/b]Find a comfortable sensitivity and work to increase it. [b]-[/b]Create a routine or general strategy and be able to adapt and change it over the course of a match. [b]-[/b]Optimize your load out for the type of play-style you want to use and for the particular map you are using it on. [b]-[/b]Learn to anticipate and dictate your opponents movements. Pulse rifle in destiny (at least in the beta) isnt the best choice for pvp, small mag size and too much recoil just make it a lead eater.

Your asking for skill advice in probably the worst place. If you want to learn how to be a good fps player watch game play. Even if the player sucks you can learn what NOT to do. I know I'll take heat for saying this too, but, MLGpro.com is miles ahead in terms of skill against 95% of this community.

pulse rifles were pretty bad in pvp in the beta. that's why they are getting bugged along with hand cannons. 1. know your maps, control points, spawns. 2. use your radar. crouching helps limit your ping on the map if you are close to an enemy. pre fire and use your grenades when challenging. 3. don't run around corners. like I said before, prefire or come around every corner aiming down sights. 4. play with a team. call outs are huge, telling ppl where you got killed or saw someone running you got a shot or two on is really helpful. your teammates can pick up slack if you didn't kill someone. also tell ppl where you're located and what you're doing. ie, watching b flag from c spawn area. 5. listen for heavy ammo drops. control these pts. heavy ammo is an easy way to melt other players and keep them from having the same opportunity as well. 6. pick a good weapon that suits your play style and have a good secondary for the map you are playing.

There are a lot of good tip videos on YouTube also. I watched Ms5000Watts tips video and realized a lot of my mistakes are more my unfamiliarity with fps on console. I honestly didn't get how people seemed to know where I was constantly when I couldn't find them. I learned how to read the radar and I'm not giving up. I'm really really stubborn when it comes to this stuff so I will keep going and getting better at it. I don't care for plasma rifles personally. I like auto or scout rifles. I'm kind of slow at aiming so I have been working on increasing sensitivity. Increasing too fast made it horrible to steady aim but too slow and I get pwned. I am on PS3 too so I bought a PS4 controller to use also because it's smoother and doesn't hurt my hands so much.

In pvp the ARs were very OP. I used a scout and was pretty good in crucible. When it came to iron banner i had no chance

Who cares about K/D. Play Titan, Titan smash, smash is fun! But seriously, why you suck has nothing to do with anything than you being horrible at aiming with contollers. Once you get that down the rest will follow.

To give you a helping hand I used the pulse rifles and Hand Cannons other than the rest and yes there are bad pulse rifles and then there are the good ones. I luckily found a very nice pulse rifle in the BETA that mowed every one down two pulls on the trigger, forget the name but you just have to find that right one. It'll take time my friend but you'll find that one for you. Cheers!

Put sensitivity at highest setting, invert your controls, and try to melee every enemy instead of shooting them and you will immediately see improvements.

Sounds like you are getting ahead of yourself. Focus on being able to kill efficiently before you worry about ratios. You just aren't confident in your PvP skills that's all. Confidence in gaming comes with time and practice like it does with anything else in life.

If you can't control hesitating then i would recommend an AR. That way even if you have a bad aim you can still spray and pray.

Ignore your K/D ratio. Convince yourself your playing SP, but against intelligent AI. Don't go running into firefights. Pick a point to get to & get there, looking out for enemies on the way. Defend an area. NOT to be confused with camping in a corner like a bitch. Stake out a quarter of a map you know well & keep it. Check your corners, lines of sight & map constantly. You don't have to run everywhere. Ignore your K/D ratio & have fun. [spoiler]Ya scrub :)[/spoiler]

Lots of good advice floating around! To keep it as simple as possible, my three pieces of advice would be the following: 1. As you play, pay attention to the map. Try to learn where you tend to get shot, and where from, so you can understand the danger points. 2. Always have one eye on your radar. 3. If you have your grenade, use it. It will lead to a lot of wasted grenades at first, but once you get the hang of it, a well placed grenade will win you many fights. Note, you should be throwing them before the fight starts or if they are hiding, and not during a fight. 90% of the time, it doesn't help to throw if they're still shooting at you.

It just takes time and practice. Find the sensitivity that works for you and work your way up. Practice aiming at other players. The number one key though is being able to predict the other players thoughts. Know where he is coming from, what he wants to do, and how he will do it. Of course not mind reading, just for instance knowing if you are on a flag he will probably try to grenade or super you before resorting to shooting, so be wary of approaching enemies.

This fps is totally different from cod. You can't win alone. [u]Play smart[/u] -pay attention to radar -use auto rifle/use shotguns and snipers and whatever when necessary -knowledge of the map -use low sensitivity for better accuracy (Buy scuf?) LOL

I personally think that pulse rifles suck on pvp and are only good on pve

I'd use a gun that fires lots of bullets. Should work pretty well.

Practice. Also don't be a puss.

The PR was garbage in the beta and has been announced that they will be receiving a buff or damage increase at launch.
