Dear Guardian, This Is Why You SHOULD NOT be Raiding.

Dear Guardian, As much as I like to help and encourage people I must stress a few reasons why you SHOULD NOT be taking part in a Raid on The Vault Of Glass. 1. You are below Rank 27. The lower your Rank, the less damage you can do. And I mean waayyyy less! At Rank 25 you are looking at a 43% reduction in damage output! 2. No Mic. You refuse to use your mic or you don't have one or people in your house are sleeping. For whatever reason, you are not on your mic. Communication is absolutely 100% critical in the VoG. Sometimes you even need to back out into Orbit to fully discuss and strategize. Impossible if you are not using your mic. 3. Party Chat. Even worse than not having a mic is not joining (or leaving) a Party Chat. The game volume is less loud when you are in a Party Chat , as opposed to in game chat, so its easier to communicate without everyone raising their voices over gun fights (i.e. the Destiny chat). If you are in the in game chat and we are in Party Chat then we can't hear you and you can't hear us! 4. Leadership Only one or two people should be giving out orders and instructions during critical moments and battles. Nobody else should speak over them except to call out things that change the game i.e. Relic, teleports, oracles, strong enemies, health, hazards, situation report, countdown (time's vengeance) etc. 5. Its not a Strike. People often start playing the VoG and within an hour they are saying that they have to leave for work or to sleep or eat or whatever else. Please don't start playing if you haven't got the time to spare. This isn't going to be done quickly unless YOU and YOUR WHOLE TEAM absolutely know what they are doing in the VoG. Every time someone leaves, that person has to be replaced. The new person has to be 'worked in' and that can take a while. If someone else leaves 30mins later and the pattern continues then you can see how things can drag out. Yes, we have a week to complete the VoG and there are checkpoints but that is besides the point. Think about how you are affecting the team. Don't just join to get that one chest and then leave. 6. Weapons, Supers, Builds & Perks Use what will benefit you and your team. This isn't the time to be using a weapon just because you like the look or sound of it. This isn't the time to be doing your bounties. This isn't where you level up your character. You are facing the Vex. They use purple shields. You need weapons and builds that maximise Void damage to break these shields. You need Titans who are using Defender. Hunters should be using Invisibility in the Gorgon's Labyrinth and Golden Gun during Boss fights and for Oracles. Warlocks can go either way. Customise your perks so that they help you and your team to get through. Don't be lazy. Don't be selfish. 7. Be patient with people. Not everyone knows the ins and outs of the VoG. Everyone on the team should be welcoming to someone who is new to it and take the time to explain things before and as they happen. Don't just kick someone because they got it wrong 5 times in a row. People won't begin to get better until they fully understand what is happening. There are different reasons why the whole team gets wiped. Explain them fully. If things are not going well its a good idea for everyone to regroup in Orbit, ask how everyone is feeling, try to give encouragement and keep morale up. Talk about where things are going well and where things need work. Restock on ammo at the Tower and maybe take a real life break for 5 mins before getting back into it. 8. But I was invited... Thats fine. If you find yourself in a fireteam of 6 and on route to Venus and you know that you haven't got time or that you are not ready, then please politely let the others know ASAP. That way you can get going to what you really want to do and the rest of the team can start looking for a replacement without anybody having their time wasted. You are helping the team out more by giving notice to leave right at the start. We've all been there. One minute you are doing your own thing then you get an invite to do something that you would rather not do at that time. Summary If you are unwilling to follow this advice then you are severely hindering your team's progression within the VoG. Please do the right thing and don't play unless you are willing to do your best to help everyone to get through it. I am writing this out of love. So that we can all benefit. Regards, A Thorny Guardian P.S. If you can think of more reasons why people shouldn't raid just yet, please say below but be constructive. Thanks in advance!

  • I did the raid without a mic. Well we didn't kill final boss bkuz 2 ppl had to leave and or fell asleep during breaks. But I didn't need a mic I just Listened to what I was told to do. Mic usage is not an option for me unless console can relay sign language somehow

    • 2 is BS you only need 2 good communicators and 4 very good listeners. When the patch goes live it will be 3/3. Too many voices not enough concentration.

    • Most importantly if I'm going to spend an hour or so with a group of people I want to be having fun. If the Fireteam can't even open the Vault without bitching and moaning, there is little point carrying on with them. The biggest reason why you shouldn't Raid just yet is because it is buggy as hell. So unless you like running around without any weapons, being stuck in eternal teleport, having no sound except that of your own gun, having a Relic that doesn't work or having one or more of the Fireteam being sent back to orbit because they sneezed, don't Raid until Bungie have fixed all the bugs. 1. Level 25 = -25% damage, Level 24 = -50%, Level 23 = -75% & Level 22 -100% (ie you do 0 damage - hence impossible) 2. I've seen players without a Mic run the Raid without needing any instruction, and I've seen players with a Mic use it for nothing but bitching 3. Or you could just turn down your game volume so you can hear people 4. No one likes a dictator, every team members opinion is important and there are many different ways to complete each part of the Raid. 5. You should be able to complete a normal Raid within an hour. If someone leaves without a good reason, just don't do another Raid with them. 6. As long as each person pulls their weight, I don't care how they get the job done. 7. If you are not getting on with the team, replace people or find another group of more likeminded people.

      • Not all of us have the time to find a raid team and complete the full raid in one sitting because some of us have other things to do. Also you don't need to be at least level 27. I was in a raid with a level 23 and a level 25 and we still finished it.

        • My entire team was 26 the first time we cleared the raid... Took 3 hours, but we got it!

        • I helped a friend Tuesday night. The group was mostly 26. 1 25, 1-2 27, and my 29. All but 2 had never played the raid. With some good leadership from myself and the other one that was well versed, we got to aetheon in about 2 hours. At this point I left because it was getting late, and I have to show up in the office occasionally to earn my salary. Imho, a bigger problem than low levels and new to vog players, are the experienced players that lose their shit when the team ducks up. It kills morale, and the team falls apart bit by bit. Up your leadership skills, guardians.

          • I got kicked form the fireteam on Atheon-- I was with randoms and we were dominating, until I was kicked from the fireteam. On my profile it even says I've looted 3 of 4 bosses. Pisses me off.

          • What strategy? Defend the conflux...uh I'll go where I'm needed by...looking. Teleport? I've done everything I'll take it - if you get it first so be it. Once you have people who have done it a few times there is literally no strategy it just becomes another strike. Who cares if you split up in the gorgon maze. If your run works do it.

            • Yeah I had the problem with people dropping out on Wednesday. I had about 5 people changing at one at a time. Unfortunately the people who dropped out said they were distracted that we kept dying at templer area. Somehow we managed to do templer with five which is not to bad in my opinion against all odds.

              • I love this. I just got "so entitled" slammed because in another thread I said the raid should net you a guaranteed piece of raid gear. You list all this shit as requirements for raiding. Then on top of my schedule I have to work through. Lol, yea. I'm so entitled. Kids these days. (I'm not complaining about your thread in anyway, just thought it was funny as it semi related to my issue)

              • Umm the normal raid is 26 not 27. So by your logic I should be level 31 to do the hard raid. I clear it every week on my 29 and did so on my 29 warlock.,now lvl 30.cleared normal on my titan at lvl 25 without issues The rest of your points are valid.

                • This is all good advice. Me and my group completed the VoG in about 50 minutes, including an about 10 minute break, and a little bit of messing around/exploring(not much tho). Looking back on it, we did everything you said here, which allowed us to complete the raid without a single wipe. Comparing that run, to my first run the difference is enormous. Level wise, communication wise, and strategy wise. The raid takes practice and communication, and before you know it you will be running through the motions. Then you can try the hard raid, and start right back at square one again lol. Good luck with your raids guys, this week was kind to me, got two pieces of raid gear :)

                  • Forgive my ignorance but how do you create/join a party chat? You make some excellent points. On the mic thing though I have found that as long as the person not using a mic (or not talking) can listen and follow instructions it can work out fine.
