Dear Guardian, This Is Why You SHOULD NOT be Raiding.

Dear Guardian, As much as I like to help and encourage people I must stress a few reasons why you SHOULD NOT be taking part in a Raid on The Vault Of Glass. 1. You are below Rank 27. The lower your Rank, the less damage you can do. And I mean waayyyy less! At Rank 25 you are looking at a 43% reduction in damage output! 2. No Mic. You refuse to use your mic or you don't have one or people in your house are sleeping. For whatever reason, you are not on your mic. Communication is absolutely 100% critical in the VoG. Sometimes you even need to back out into Orbit to fully discuss and strategize. Impossible if you are not using your mic. 3. Party Chat. Even worse than not having a mic is not joining (or leaving) a Party Chat. The game volume is less loud when you are in a Party Chat , as opposed to in game chat, so its easier to communicate without everyone raising their voices over gun fights (i.e. the Destiny chat). If you are in the in game chat and we are in Party Chat then we can't hear you and you can't hear us! 4. Leadership Only one or two people should be giving out orders and instructions during critical moments and battles. Nobody else should speak over them except to call out things that change the game i.e. Relic, teleports, oracles, strong enemies, health, hazards, situation report, countdown (time's vengeance) etc. 5. Its not a Strike. People often start playing the VoG and within an hour they are saying that they have to leave for work or to sleep or eat or whatever else. Please don't start playing if you haven't got the time to spare. This isn't going to be done quickly unless YOU and YOUR WHOLE TEAM absolutely know what they are doing in the VoG. Every time someone leaves, that person has to be replaced. The new person has to be 'worked in' and that can take a while. If someone else leaves 30mins later and the pattern continues then you can see how things can drag out. Yes, we have a week to complete the VoG and there are checkpoints but that is besides the point. Think about how you are affecting the team. Don't just join to get that one chest and then leave. 6. Weapons, Supers, Builds & Perks Use what will benefit you and your team. This isn't the time to be using a weapon just because you like the look or sound of it. This isn't the time to be doing your bounties. This isn't where you level up your character. You are facing the Vex. They use purple shields. You need weapons and builds that maximise Void damage to break these shields. You need Titans who are using Defender. Hunters should be using Invisibility in the Gorgon's Labyrinth and Golden Gun during Boss fights and for Oracles. Warlocks can go either way. Customise your perks so that they help you and your team to get through. Don't be lazy. Don't be selfish. 7. Be patient with people. Not everyone knows the ins and outs of the VoG. Everyone on the team should be welcoming to someone who is new to it and take the time to explain things before and as they happen. Don't just kick someone because they got it wrong 5 times in a row. People won't begin to get better until they fully understand what is happening. There are different reasons why the whole team gets wiped. Explain them fully. If things are not going well its a good idea for everyone to regroup in Orbit, ask how everyone is feeling, try to give encouragement and keep morale up. Talk about where things are going well and where things need work. Restock on ammo at the Tower and maybe take a real life break for 5 mins before getting back into it. 8. But I was invited... Thats fine. If you find yourself in a fireteam of 6 and on route to Venus and you know that you haven't got time or that you are not ready, then please politely let the others know ASAP. That way you can get going to what you really want to do and the rest of the team can start looking for a replacement without anybody having their time wasted. You are helping the team out more by giving notice to leave right at the start. We've all been there. One minute you are doing your own thing then you get an invite to do something that you would rather not do at that time. Summary If you are unwilling to follow this advice then you are severely hindering your team's progression within the VoG. Please do the right thing and don't play unless you are willing to do your best to help everyone to get through it. I am writing this out of love. So that we can all benefit. Regards, A Thorny Guardian P.S. If you can think of more reasons why people shouldn't raid just yet, please say below but be constructive. Thanks in advance!

  • Also, if you are level 25 and under, don't try to invite 27+ to do the raid/nightfall. I personally won't join unless you are at least 27 (sometimes 26)

    • I laughed at the rank 27 thing. I was exactly 26 for the five times I did it, and still beat it. The 6th, 27.

      • I've raided with lvl 25's. Not very hard. I mean the raid was made for lvl 26 and up after all. So one level behind isn't something to whine about.

        • I would add weapons to this list - if you are not using weapons specified for this raid (i.e. void) then you should have a good reason. Running around with a solar shotgun and wondering why minotaurs are pounding you into the ground is a facepalm moment for the rest of us. There are few exceptions to this rule (Ice Breaker for example), but in general, you should be using weapons that are suited best against the enemies you are taking on. If you do not know what an enemy is vulnerable to, look at it's shields. Hive Wizards have an orange-y shield, hence they are vulnerable to solar damage. Fallen Captains have a light blue shield, hence they are vulnerable against arc damage. Vex Minotaurs have a purple shield, hence they are vulnerable against void damage. Why is this important? Praetorians and Minotaurs are a pain. Period. Half of that pain is their shields. Dropping that with one hit from a fusion rifle with void alleviates a lot of stress, not only for you, but for your team.

          • Don't know if someone said it or not already but the raid is listed as a level twenty six event. Being twenty seven actually puts you one level above the requirement, so twenty six should be fine. Correct?

            • It's actually possible to do the raid with 0 communication. I did it with a group of randoms with no mics and beat the vault from start to finish (without cheesing it) just fine.

            • This should be for hard mode. My friends and I complete normal raid in an hour or less and most of the time talking about random stuff with few call outs.

              • You can have no mic if you take directions well and know what your doing.... my group attempted a run with no communication (about the raid, we still joked about lives) and came out victoriously very easily even on hard.

                • I've completed my first raid at 25. With no person above level 28 most of is were below 27 and one had no mic we opened the vault surprisingly fast.

                    • I think this in this post he was mainly speaking on hard mode. On normal I could possibly run a group of 26's through by myself. Hard mode, though.... Well, If you die, you CANNOT BE REVIVED, so that's really all you need to know. Although, I've completed hard with two 28's before, but that was only after significant "cheesing".

                          • Completing Normal shouldn't give you the mindset to try Hard Mode. If you suggest it and four people agree, and you're all level 27... It will waste time for everybody.

                          • I have to disagree with #2. Granted, I understand where it's coming from, but everyone who says this is taking shit way too seriously. You do not need 6 Microphones, and not having a mic does not make strategizing in orbit impossible. All that is needed, in general, are at least 2 people with Mics, and a group of listeners. That's stretching it, but it can be done. I completed my recent Raid run with half a team of no mics, and one person with a mic who barely used it. It took us a bit to find the flow, but we did it. I'm not saying we took 8 hours to complete, but it certainly wasn't a quick run. There were hiccups, there always are, but we did it. If a group with half its members being mic-less can do it, it's not that bloody crucial. Just my two cents, let the flames begin.

                            • I dont like being verbally active in a game most of the time, I do what Im told and thensome in the raid. memorized the gorgon travel pattern before my crew and had them follow me without saying a word(they had mics). Held down the Portals for Atheon battle as well as provide good support during templar fiasco in form of revive/add kills. I dont need to talk to be effective as long as the leader(s) give clear commands(stuttering, too many 'Uh' pauses, Um = instant ignore or drop)
