Dear Guardian, This Is Why You SHOULD NOT be Raiding.

Dear Guardian, As much as I like to help and encourage people I must stress a few reasons why you SHOULD NOT be taking part in a Raid on The Vault Of Glass. 1. You are below Rank 27. The lower your Rank, the less damage you can do. And I mean waayyyy less! At Rank 25 you are looking at a 43% reduction in damage output! 2. No Mic. You refuse to use your mic or you don't have one or people in your house are sleeping. For whatever reason, you are not on your mic. Communication is absolutely 100% critical in the VoG. Sometimes you even need to back out into Orbit to fully discuss and strategize. Impossible if you are not using your mic. 3. Party Chat. Even worse than not having a mic is not joining (or leaving) a Party Chat. The game volume is less loud when you are in a Party Chat , as opposed to in game chat, so its easier to communicate without everyone raising their voices over gun fights (i.e. the Destiny chat). If you are in the in game chat and we are in Party Chat then we can't hear you and you can't hear us! 4. Leadership Only one or two people should be giving out orders and instructions during critical moments and battles. Nobody else should speak over them except to call out things that change the game i.e. Relic, teleports, oracles, strong enemies, health, hazards, situation report, countdown (time's vengeance) etc. 5. Its not a Strike. People often start playing the VoG and within an hour they are saying that they have to leave for work or to sleep or eat or whatever else. Please don't start playing if you haven't got the time to spare. This isn't going to be done quickly unless YOU and YOUR WHOLE TEAM absolutely know what they are doing in the VoG. Every time someone leaves, that person has to be replaced. The new person has to be 'worked in' and that can take a while. If someone else leaves 30mins later and the pattern continues then you can see how things can drag out. Yes, we have a week to complete the VoG and there are checkpoints but that is besides the point. Think about how you are affecting the team. Don't just join to get that one chest and then leave. 6. Weapons, Supers, Builds & Perks Use what will benefit you and your team. This isn't the time to be using a weapon just because you like the look or sound of it. This isn't the time to be doing your bounties. This isn't where you level up your character. You are facing the Vex. They use purple shields. You need weapons and builds that maximise Void damage to break these shields. You need Titans who are using Defender. Hunters should be using Invisibility in the Gorgon's Labyrinth and Golden Gun during Boss fights and for Oracles. Warlocks can go either way. Customise your perks so that they help you and your team to get through. Don't be lazy. Don't be selfish. 7. Be patient with people. Not everyone knows the ins and outs of the VoG. Everyone on the team should be welcoming to someone who is new to it and take the time to explain things before and as they happen. Don't just kick someone because they got it wrong 5 times in a row. People won't begin to get better until they fully understand what is happening. There are different reasons why the whole team gets wiped. Explain them fully. If things are not going well its a good idea for everyone to regroup in Orbit, ask how everyone is feeling, try to give encouragement and keep morale up. Talk about where things are going well and where things need work. Restock on ammo at the Tower and maybe take a real life break for 5 mins before getting back into it. 8. But I was invited... Thats fine. If you find yourself in a fireteam of 6 and on route to Venus and you know that you haven't got time or that you are not ready, then please politely let the others know ASAP. That way you can get going to what you really want to do and the rest of the team can start looking for a replacement without anybody having their time wasted. You are helping the team out more by giving notice to leave right at the start. We've all been there. One minute you are doing your own thing then you get an invite to do something that you would rather not do at that time. Summary If you are unwilling to follow this advice then you are severely hindering your team's progression within the VoG. Please do the right thing and don't play unless you are willing to do your best to help everyone to get through it. I am writing this out of love. So that we can all benefit. Regards, A Thorny Guardian P.S. If you can think of more reasons why people shouldn't raid just yet, please say below but be constructive. Thanks in advance!

  • I ordered a Mic today, so hopefully i will get it monday. and indeeed the reason i still aint playing VoG is because of the ragers. i was a Hardcore raider in World of Warcraft once, With raidleading abbilities and pushed my team with the right effort to the brink of victories, honest and fair with the right instructions. later on i start soft raiding, gave up my raidlead and just followed the lead, it just took to much time( read tacts and mechs). however when i joind pugged raids woooow: the raging didnt stop, thats why im affraid to join the VoG here. i have a 28 titan, lvling my defender talents so i can join whenever i am ready ^^ OT: great tips ^^

    • reasons why i,ll never play vog.... 1. i dont like long matches, 10-15 mins is my limit & then i want a new match.. 2. I dont take gaming seriously enough to even pay attention to half of these rules. 3. if im gonna spend an hour+ in any match i wanna know my reward is worth the time, ive seen so many ppl commenting about the shit payout that its not worth the effort. 4. The raid gear looks terrible & the exotic weapons arent as good as the legendaries i currently own so why bother. Have fun raiding & be relieved at knowing you dont have me in there.

      • Honestly, I don't fully agree with point #1. Level matters, yes, but coming from first hand experience, level 26 is just fine for normal vog. The first time I did it I was in a group with 4 26's, and while it took us about four hours over two days, most of that was us learning the fights. I understand making the raid easier by being a higher level than the enemies you fight; but if we listed that as a requirement, nobody would EVER do the hard mode. Because it's impossible to be level 30 before entering it. And it is also currently impossible to be higher level than 30. By all means, cut players for being too low. But having players at 26 doesn't make it impossible, hell, doesn't even make it that much harder. I've even been in a successful run with a 25, even though he was compensated by two 29's.

        • I have done the raid on normal with all 3 classes and on hard with my hunter. If you are pushing Templar off you need striker leveled a little for the pulse grenade. If you need a hunter to go into the blade dancer spec for gorgons maze then you should not be playing. Gorgons maze takes 30 seconds to get through if you know what you are doing. Everything else I agree with.

          • It's not a strike? It's like two strikes put together. And shouldn't take any longer than two strikes

            • This is some very useful information. I haven't been in VoG before nor even gotten another person to agree to team with me for one, but I think I finally have a basic understanding of what VoG demands from it's players. And this tells me that I should definitely stay away until I finish filling in the holes in my build that I've been eying for a while. lol Also, I haven't gotten a mic yet and wasn't really sure I needed/wanted one, but since it is so crucial to gameplay, I guess I'm going to have to break down and buy one. lol Ah well, was going to happen sooner or later. :P

                • Lots of good info, except the part about not even trying if you can't dedicate hours to a single run. While the majority of people who frequent the forums are of a younger demographic and have the kind of time you're demanding; the vast majority of GAMERS, at large, are in the 25-40 male demo. This means we have jobs, families, and prior obligations that may not allow us to always spend hours on end doing a raid. I played with a group of randoms the other night and we all took a break because one guy's baby woke up. Then about 20 minutes later, my 1 year old did the same. You know what? Everyone was cool with it. We all had kids and we all knew that the game isn't that important. And get this - we still had FUN. Three of those guys are now on my friends list, and we even picked up where we left off the next night. You should amend your "rule" to say, "Find players that are willing to invest the same amount of time per run." Because saying you shouldn't even try if you can't do it in one go just comes off as dickish and makes you sound like the kind of person who desperately wants to be that group leader you were talking about, but no one wants to follow because of the aforementioned dickery.

This is a great post and as someone who has attempted raid once with some nice guys, I felt like I really wanted to be better to help out more, but didn't know enough! Bless them for trying to explain in their way, at the time, but with Templars and relics and oracles and cleansing and lock down shields, I was proper out of my depth! Thank you for this information. With it I hope to be a better raid first timer. And by first raid, I mean ever, as destiny is my first ever mmo game.

                      • Very well said. I can tell you speak only from experience so obviously you know what you are talking about Added tip: Strategy is key. I am not talking about cheesing bosses or any of that such. I mean real strategy. When opening the gate, defending the confluxes, destroying oracles, fighting the Templar, retrieving the relics from the two portals and fighting Atheon, you should always come prepared. Don't allow all of you to crouch in one corner and expect victory. Split your entire team into two or three smaller teams depending on which part of the raid you are on. Most things are pretty straightforward up until Atheon. A lot of confusion goes on in his room and it doesn't hurt to explain what to do and expect to someone new. Don't kick them out or ignore them if they are continually asking for help. Trust me, you need that particular person. Lastly, something extremely important: Know all roles of the game. Know how to use the relic, know how to defend and etc. When in the Atheon battle, I am usually in the back with two others because we are the "extraction" or "time" team. We always get teleported and I always grab the relic. We always pull through. The other three stay and kill the supplicants and defend the gates as they damage Atheon until we come back. But it will usually happen sometimes that someone on your team or the other dies. Don't panic. If you know how to play every role, you'll be fine until one of you can revive whoever died. Like I said, I am always the relic person on the teleportation team, but there have been instances where because of someone dying on the defending end, I helped defend until we were able to revive him. Yes, I am usually always the relic holder, but I still know what to do if I don't get teleported and so should you. Whether it's the same or vice versa. Never use the relic? Don't be afraid. It's not as hard as it seems. If anything, its exactly like the Sword of Crota. Never defended? Don't be afraid of that either. Focus on the supplicants so when the teleportation team comes back, they don't get killed by their explosions and if you have a chance, put a few shots into Atheon because during the entire time the teleportation team is inside one of the gates, he is motionless and is basically a sitting duck in most cases. Good luck guardians. -A Wolf Who is nothing without his pack

                          • I have no mic and was invited to a fire team doing the VOG last night. I could not hear anyone and no idea what was going on. There was a portal that would open and I went in it once only to have my screen go black and be forever lost in the corner of time or something. So I didn't go back in the portal after that. I would just stay on the left side protecting a gate. We where getting consumed by darkness every 4-5 minutes. So I gave up and logged out of Destiny. My ghost didn't help explain anything either. All the VOG walk throughs on YouTube make me feel like a dog watching TV. It's like you need a semester in VOG to even understand what to do.
