Help for a hunter in vog

I'm looking for some veteran's advice on how to play as a hunter in vog on hard. My primary character is a warlock and I seem to do great, even at level 29, but my hunter just dies instantly it seem (also level 29). Are there some particular skills/exotic armor that work well in vog or are hunter just plain not as good when it comes to vog?
