My beautiful 870 express may have lived up it's usefulness to me. It suffered the Cerberus group fate and has surface rust on the receiver. Now this pisses me all kinds of off. It was a 400 dollar gun straight from the factory and not even two years later it's rusting.
So I am toying with the idea of selling it or doing a straight across trade for something else. I've weight the idea of a mossturd or even some revolvers. But I cannot find anything under the 350 I may get for it on a good day. That and the need for a handgun safety cert which costs 25 -blam!-ing dollars here in the glorious state of California, my options have been pretty limited.
I need a home defense gun, one that I know won't be an issue in reliability. I don't know if that rust will spread to internals. I keep my gun well maintained, hell I even cleaned it yesterday despite cleaning it after the last time I shot. I am not going to settle for a piece of garbage though. If I do end up replacing it, I don't want a shitty kel-tec or Hi-Point. I want something I can rely on to get the job done. Oh and Pompano, I am not buying a shitty Chinese made 870 clone either.
Any Advice guys?

Dude , put CLP on it rub the rust areas . Make sure you clean it out before you store it . And maybe get a Gun Sock . Almost all guns rust after time . Nice shotty though , I have a mosberg 500. Next on the list is a 1919 shotgun !!! Looks like an AR-15 .

Dayum $350 budget, I was gonna suggest the Kel-Tec KSG (1337 CoD gunz 4 teh win), I mean it's a pretty sweet design; 15 shells (including one in the chamber) and the ability to hold two types of shell. Plus the bullpup design makes the gun have a short profile while retaining barrel length. Not sure about recoil with the bullpup though.

Can't you send it back to Remington for a refurbish? Don't they do that with older models now (not that yours is that old).

Edited by DELIVER ME MEMES: 8/6/2013 6:47:25 AMmossman 590A1.(fully self-serviceable, unlike remington) Stevens 520(it served as one of the trench guns, btw) H&R pardner used 870 Police model, if you can get one in CA(do your mag caps apply to pump guns?) mossman 3 shot bolt action 12, 20, or .410ga Ithaca 37(but they added a disconnect to the post 1978 "civilian" models, IIRC so no slamfires allegedly) you have a lot of options.... i think you'd be lucky to get $150 for a used Cerberus express.

>post Cerberus Remington Nope nope nope OT: I don't know much about shotguns, so, sorry I can't help.

The rust issue may stem from the way you are storing it.

Sell it, and buy a 870 special purpose marine magnum. My 2nd favorite gun that I own. Behind my Colt AR-15.
-
You can probably get rid of that rust
-
Why did you get an 870? Buy a $200 Mossberg Maverick 88, high quality gun for an extremely low price.

Nice, Remington 870s are very nice, if I were you I'd keep it. (But maybe do some cleaning like take apart the rusting part and give it a good cleaning. If all else fails check the price on factory replacement parts if its worrying you that bad.)

I'll give you $100 for it...
