Sorry Admirals, but I have a question/s I'm sure it's simple, but Halo 4 has sorta messed me up with how much human interactivity is needed. Why did the Prophet of Truth need Johnson to activate all the Halos? It's because only humans can right? Can Covenant access Forerunner tech now? How are humans able to and why?

  •
Why did the Prophet of Truth need Johnson to activate all the Halos?
Only a reclaimer or Forerunner can activate Halo.
It's because only humans can right?
Correct.
Can Covenant access Forerunner tech now?
They always could. Only certain installations with a certain importance were restricted to Reclaimers and Forerunners. Typically military installations.
How are humans able to and why?
Only humans with Reclaimer status have special access to Forerunner devices. This was done to assist humanity on their path to the Mantle and give them access to their legacy.

  • I think it's the terminals that have screwed me up. So in general, the Forerunner "government" was for humanity? The Didact just wanted to kill us because he didn't like us? Because we were destroying forerunner worlds to cleanse the Flood?

The Didact wishes to destroy us because of a previous war between humans and forerunners caused by Humans attacking a (flood infested) forerunner colony. This war resulted in the death of the Didact's children, fostering a dislike of humanity within him. This was capitalized upon by the flood, which utterly broke his mind during the forerunner-flood war. He then thought that humans would be best utilized as Promethans to "atone" while stopping the flood, but his efforts were thwarted by his wife, the librarian, hut put him into a cryptum in hopes that he could meditate and eventually recover to serve as a guide for humanity. However, the sum of a forerunner knowledge, something called the domain, was destroyed with the activation of Halo, thus consigning the Didact to 100,000 years of waiting, unable to do anything So he's pretty pissed

  • I understood most of that. Okay. So what qualifies a human being as a Reclaimer? The geas?

  • Yes, their geas.

  • Thank you Admirals. So how do only specific humans have the geas?

  • Well, the Didact sort of Composed most of humanity so only a few with geas were left.

  • So the Librarian placed these genetic seeds within us, bound for great things, but the Didact screwed us over of course with the Composer. John just happens to be from a line of men with those genetic gifts?

  • Yeah. There was supposed to be 10,000,000 of us for the reseeding effort armed with existing knowledge on steamboats and minor engineering along with other advancements included in the Librarian's geas. However, the Didact composed the vast majority of that, forcing the Librarian to scramble back to Earth and grab the few hundred remaining humans left on Earth. Those of which left on Earth were old, and had a genetic makeup that didn't suit the librarian's plans. This why humanity is at a low technological level compared to the Covenant. Once again, the Covenant misinterpret scenarios. Truth does this in Halo 3. "Your forefathers wisely set aside their compassion, steeled themselves for what needed to be done! I see now why they left you behind. You were weak, and gods, must be strong!" As you can see, he uses this fact in an attempt to justify why the Covenant is more worthy for the Forerunner legacy.

  • This clears some things up regarding the terminals. Thanks Admirals as always.

  • I'm going to let Lord of Admirals answer that, because while I think the answer is yes, I'm not sure

  • All humans can access and use Forerunner tech. They can because The Librarian, a Forerunner with a high place in society, felt sorry for misunderstanding the Humans during their war (Forerunner-Human War). She then named them the keepers of the Mantle of Responsibility after the Forerunners died during the activation of the Halo rings (note that Humans were going to be given the Mantle even before the Forerunners, by the Precursors, but that's another story). The Covenant have reversed engineered most Forerunner weapons so they can use them.

  • Only a reclaimer can activate the Halo's and other forerunner tech. Only forerunners and humans can be reclaimers but not every human is a reclaimer. I think that's how it works
