Why High Charity Can't Go to the Ark

Sources: “Diameter: 72.79 miles (117km)"* -Page 146, Portal at Voi, Halo EVG “Diameter: 216 miles (348km)” -Page 93, High Charity, Halo EVG Math: Start: 1/X = 117/348 Cross Multiply: 117X = 348 Divide by 117: 117X/117 = 348/117 Simplify and Finish: X = 2.97 Conclusion: Based on the math equation, if we round up, we can say that the portal to the Ark is ⅓ the diameter of High Charity’s diameter. There has yet been an instance in Halo’s canon where a Forerunner slipspace portal has allowed an object larger than it to pass through it. Therefore, we can not make an accurate inference/suggestion/conclusion that objects larger than a Forerunner portal can travel through it. If such a conclusion is made anyway, then an answer needs to exist as to why the Forerunners waste energy on opening portals larger than the object that is passing through it. (See: Halo 4) This irrefutably means that it is implausible for High Charity to have used the portal at Voi to travel to the Ark. ---------------------------------------------------------------- *The Halo EVG page titled “Portal at Voi” states it is referring directly to the slipspace portal, and not the machine generating it. “COMPOSISTION: Slipspace field generated by a massive gateway machine” -Page 146, Portal at Voi, Halo EVG

  • The forerunners moved the ark through these portals. I'm pretty sure high charity could make it through.

      • Has anyone put out the idea that Gravemind didn't take High Charity out of slipspace to go into the portal, but just went to where the portal's "stream" in slipspace was and went immediately to the Ark because invading Earth would be pointless if the Halo's were activated?

Should I care? You're thinking way too hard about this stuff. Besides, do we even know that high Charity came through the portal? Maybe a scout ship was sent through first to get the coordinates and High Charity opened up its own portal. Besides, it all depends on if you count extended media as part of actual canon.

The portal is essentially a white girl's booty and High Charity is a BBC. There was quite a bit of stretching going on there. #There'sNoGoingBackOnceYouGoBlack

                    • Here's what I think is going to play out here. We've ruled out options that High Charity made it there on it's own, or that it used brute force through slipspace shenanigans to enter the pathway that the portal led to. So, that only leaves expanding the portal to accomodate for the station. And that means that the ship has to enter the atmosphere to do so. Now, 343 already did some expansion on what happened to Africa during the first wave of Flood forms. Cities were overtaken in hours. So, to make things seem even worse, and to make the Flood more of a credible threat, High Charity does launch more flood out and about. Now, how does basically a small resistance force of Human military stand up to this? We've got two options. 1. Scorched Earth policy. There was still several Mac platforms orbiting Earth even after all this shit plowed through everything. The flood pods are tracked, and wherever they land, the UNSC opened fire with the orbital platforms with everything they had until there was nothing but craters and dust. This is, probably unlikely. I don't have the math for the yields that a MAC slug does, but I know it does a hell of a lot of damage. And firing that into the atmosphere multiple times would cause a metric -blam!- ton of damage to the planet. However, it would add another element to how desperate things were. If the Flood landed in cities, the UNSC fired for the greater good. 2. The UNSC gets outside help. Where from? More Elites/Covenant seperatists. The schism split everything apart, and during this period, there was probably hundreds of self contained skirmishes all over the place between Covie loyalists and seperatists. The battle at the Ark was a big one, but I'd be willing to bet that it was only one small part of a larger picture. These Elites show up late for the party because they've been busy doing other battles elsewhere, but heard Rtas's and Thel's rallying war cry. They show up in the nick of time, and help the UNSC glass and contain the Flood while High Charity has already pissed off on it's merry way to the Ark. This would help seal up the boo boo about High Charity getting to the Ark, make the Flood out to be more of a credible threat and danger, and possibly open up more pathways to more friendly Elites that we could see in the future. Hell, for fun, they could even make some Spartan Assault missions based around this. Don't that all sound fun?

                    • High Charity used a Slipspace jump. Why was the portal necessary, you ask? Because to make a Slipspace jump, you have to know where you are going, and the Covenant and Humans had no idea where the Ark was, until they went through the portal. Also, don't say that High Charity is too big, the Forunners transported the Halo rings through Slipspace.

                        • Maybe he just used High Charity's existing slipspace to put himself inside of the portal, sending him to the Ark. Kind of like the facility Halsey and friends found.

Ok gentlemen, here's the rough math on the portal. You really want a reason why High Charity can't, and never will be able to fit into the portal? Diameter of a portal at 60% cpacity = 72.79 Finding 100% of capacity (x) 60/100 x 72.79/x 60x = 7279 x = 7279/60 100% capacity is x = 121.32 miles. There you have it. Portal won't fit High Charity. High Charity is too much of a man for Forerunner constructions. Sorry if confusing as shit, but these are all rough and quickly done, but I went over it, and that's what you get. CONFIRMED: High Charity is BBC of Haloverse. Edit- My slashes are division. Sorry for mathematical shenanigans. I base 60% based off of how wide the "wings" of the portal are opened at the time. They are opened up a little over halfway before they hit solid ground. Taking this rough guesstimate, I did the math up above and got my answer. Even if they were opened up at 55% it still wouldn't be enough. The remaining space for the wings to move allowing the growth of the portal wouldn't be enough. So, we have two canon explanations now. Bungie dun goofed and, High Charity is monster cock ramming tight Forerunner hole.

                              • I never really thought about that part. Maybe the portal expanded or something to accommodate High Charity. Though if High Charity swung by Earth during Halo 3, why it didn't drop off some Flood before going through is beyond me. There could be another explanation. Covie tech is all reversed engineered Forerunner stuff, but the Covenant don't know how to make it operate at its full potential. Gravemind obviously knows quite a lot about Forerunner technology, so maybe it went all Geordi on HC's jump drives to make the trip in a straight jump. But there's a hole there too. How would it have known the Ark's location? He captured 2401PT, but Monitors knew nothing about the Ark, and they wouldn't have left that info lying around in Delta Halo's computers.

                                • Could it be possible that High Charity used a portal at one of the rings or a shield world? The portal at the Ark is big enough for the rings to go through so they can get to their destination. Since High charity was at a ring, Gravemind could of got the coordinates from the ring since it was sent from the Arc thousands of years ago and gone to the nearest Shield world and opened a portal. Also he might of been able to activate a portal from the ruined Installation 04 since there is probably a protocol in place that would allow for a ring to be sent back to the Ark for bigger repairs. Though obviously installation 04 was destroyed beyond repair thus the reason a new one being built, but the Gravemind could of override the protocol to open a portal. Also if I remember correctly from one of the Halo books they brought some of the rings inside one of the big shield worlds to show them but a battle broke out so they raced to send them back out. Something along those lines. it was an audio book that i listened to a while ago but i remember something along those lines. It's possible that Gravemind changed course instead of going to earth and headed to a shield world that was closer but sent a flood occupied covenant cruiser to earth as a backup plan or in hopes to help stop them before they went through the portal and also build up a stronger army.

As it stands I think it's safe to say shit was so deconstructed in this thread that we may have boxed 343 into a writing corner. Any move they make now will have to be a retconn.
