In the Forerunner saga the war between Forerunners and precursors is detailed and it states that while some precursors went dormant others turned themselves into a regenerative powder which would bring them back to their forms later. But what's never clarified is if the corruption this powder suffers from turning them into the flood is due to being in such a form for so many years or if it was corrupted by being feed to the Pheru and becoming mixed in their DNA. So long question shortened is it the time spent as powder that corrupted the precursors or the unanticipated use of the powder on the Pheru that lead to its corruption.

I think it was from infecting the Pheru. But I'm not quite sure. Haven't read Halo Cryptum in a long time.

Same here funnily enough the powder was loaded onto Automated ships and I believe in the book only one ship was found? So there could very well be more ships out there with non corrupted powder inside.

Edited by Phoenix: 3/13/2015 7:45:21 PMWhich could mean bad news for the galaxy as a whole. I'm predicting a new flood outbreak that will occur later on in the Reclaimer Saga. The Flood on the Spirit of Fire, the remaining powder containers, definitely hinting at the flood's return.

Hmm possibly I think it could be a saving grace I mean if it was the mixing with the Pheru that corrupted it then the other ships still out there may very well birth uncorrupted precursors that could aid us after seeing what an abomination the others have become going so absolutely against the mantle. Plus seem a bit suspicious to me that the primordial stated that the precursors would return 100 millennium hence (generally accepted as a typo and was meant to be 100,00 years) and here we are 100,000 years later and still viable uncorrupted powder on these ships not to mention those that went dormant instead of becoming powder.
