Okay so I haven't really read any of the books other than Fall of Reach, Cole Protocol, and Ghosts of Onyx so my knowledge is limited on the forerunner saga. My question is: why did The Lord of Admirals totally glass the hell out of the planet without explaining/letting the Forerunners know about the flood?

  • That's because the ancient humans knew how serious the Flood was. They had an intimate relationship with its origins. For context, when that terminal takes place, humanity's civilization is being ravaged by the Flood, and facing a never ending assault.

  • "If we warn them, we give time for the flood to spread." - Forthenco Lord of Admirals, Halo 4 terminals He basically knew that time was of the essence. If he sent out a warning to the Forerunners, it would take time for them to respond. Which would give the Flood a tactical advantage.

  • That's very true, but couldn't they also send an explanation as to why? I mean they might have stopped the flood from spreading to that planet but ultimately it led to the fall of the humans

  • Humanity already had a strained relationship with the Forerunners. At this point in their relationship, from the Forerunner point of view (as seen in the Terminal 'War') humanity appeared to be invading Forerunner territory and destroying their settlements and ships completely unprovoked. Imagine receiving a message from an absolutely ruthless enemy who has already killed billions of your kind, telling you about how there's some kind of unstoppable cosmic horror on your world, and that you need to work together. No way you'd believe them. Especially since the claim is so ridiculous. Imagine if humanity did decide to contact the Forerunners. In the time it would have taken to convinced them of the threat, the Flood could have already taken starship(s) and headed to other worlds, or they could have overrun the planet. Or both.

  • To me, correct me if I'm wrong, that was a huge plot hole on 343's part.

  • I've always wondered why that didn't seen logical to me. I just thought maybe it was explained in the forerunner series
