I don't know your opinion about this but that serious pisses me off, he was a damn playable character. Mickeys story i'm not that rustled about but have the man who solo'd New Mombasa after a EMP blast get captured and executed by some innies is not O.K. And the reason they killed him off is so Buck can get that S-IV card.

  • I love how everyone just jumps to conclusions instead of reading the book for themselves. I put SPOILERS in the title for a reason. FYI, the Rookie was slated to be a SPARTAN-IV as well.

  • He had no character whatsoever. He may have been playable but his sole function was to act as a vessel so other characters' stories could be told. Which is exactly what his death allowed: it allows bucks story to continue, as he would've retired without that motivation to become a Spartan IV.

  • Rookie already had Dirt, and you just can't allow someone who has the skill to take on the entire Data Hive with only Dare as back up to get captured. You don't get rid of character cause he had no personality, you build on that personality and tell people "This is why X is a mute". Unlike B312, who's death was understandable because he was the only one left, and had a purpose. The Rookies death was just a large "fuck you" .

  • Even in dirt rookies sole purpose was to allow the dying ODST to tell his story. The Rookie isn't a character. He's a plot device, and he's got no personality to build off of. Sometimes people die. It doesn't matter how badass they are. Some soldiers have taken on hundreds of people in real life, only to get shot dead in another battle same as any other mook. It happens. It wasn't a -blam!- you because his death served an important purpose by bringing the squad back together as he had in his game.
