Now that the War Sphinx theory is dismissed, any idea as to what that thing from the E3 2013 trailer is?

Clearly a defense construct. Wherever Chief is, the installation sure as hell doesn't want him there with all the security measures present.
-
Is it possible he's on either the Lesser or Greater Ark? The geography is remarkably similar to the desert on the Lesser Ark. It's not out of the question that Chief could have found a way to reopen on Earth and went through.
-
Greater Ark was destroyed. Besides, there wasn't a giant red planet above the Ark.
-
Where was it said the Greater Ark was destroyed? Then perhaps this is another Forerunner installation. Geographically, they seem to keep similar themes. Unlikely that it is a shield world, since there wouldn't be planets visible in the "sky." We didn't see enough of its skybox to get a good idea of if this is even a spherical object that the Chief is on. I highly doubt it's a Halo ring, as the ring is incredibly hard to miss.
-
The Greater Ark was destroyed in Silentium, smashed to pieces in mere seconds by Precursor Star Roads as the Master Builder fired Omega Halo at Path Kethona to slow the Star Roads down.
-
But Guilty Spark took over a ship and went to it after he was repaired by humans.

No, this is what's said at the end of Primordium:
Know that all that lingered in me, the memories and emotions of old humanity, when I was still flesh, is also hidden deep within you. It slumbers, but it shapes, and it haunts your dreams and your hopes. You and I are brothers in many ways... not least in that we faced the Didact before, and face him now, and perhaps ever after. This is combat eternal, enmity unslaked, unified by only one thing: our love for the elusive Lifeshaper. Without her, humans would have been extinguished many times over. Both I and the Didact love her to this day. Some say she is dead, that she died on Earth. But that is demonstrably untrue. One of you almost certainly carries Vinnevra and Riser’s old spirits within. Only the Lifeshaper can find them and coax my friends back to life. And after a hundred thousand years of exploration and study. . . I know where to find her.
It's revealed in Silentium that the title of Lifeshaper was passed down to Chant to Green by the Librarian, Chant survived the activation of the Halos on the Lesser Ark with the IsoDidact and a small number of other Forerunners. They reseeded the galaxy, and then went on the Great Journey to some unknown location. So Chakas has evidently tracked those Forerunners down and is setting off to meet them.

Nope.

Edited by Wolf Predator10: 2/27/2015 5:13:52 PMIt might be Mendicant Bias, or his tomb.

I was only guessing. Sheesh!

That theory is based on so much misinformation. When 05-032MB was entombed, he was an oblong rectangle with pulsing energy lines.
-
Ok. Now I get ya. Thanks for clearing that up man.
-
Besides, why would you give someone who is being punished for the death of an entire civilization a giant ass military mech body.
-
Good point. Then again, we have absolutely no idea if this thing is even weaponized. And when it did come out of the ground, it unfurled from something that was fairly similar to 05-032's tomb. Maybe it's like a Transformer?
it unfurled from something that was fairly similar to 05-032's tomb
Did you even listen to or read the epilogue?

Edited by Valkyrie 497: 2/28/2015 12:23:34 AMI haven't read any of the post-mid-2011 Halo novels. I did pick up Thursday War out of curiosity and wanted to gouge my eyes out after reading it. I'm basing that statement upon how you described it. Oh, and don't count 05-032 out of the picture just yet. When Truth arrived at the Ark, he brought with him one of the fragments of 05-032, which reintegrated with the fragment on the Ark and brought it out of its pseudo-systemic lockdown. As we can see from the terminals in Halo 3, 05-032 has a decent amount of control over the Ark's systems. If the Chief is indeed on the Lesser Ark, then it's not unreasonable to think that this may be a defensive construct under the control of 05-032.
I'm basing that statement upon how you described it.
I never described it that way.
Oh, and don't count 05-032 out of the picture just yet.
Me saying the war bird is not MB =/= me saying he's gone forever.
If the Chief is indeed on the Lesser Ark, then it's not unreasonable to think that this may be a defensive construct under the control of 05-032.
That wouldn't make any sense. Oh hey! Reclaimer guy! The one I sent to atone for my sins and show the Forerunners I'm not a galactic space jerk anymore! You're back! Let me just vaporize you now with my mechanized war machine.

Edited by Valkyrie 497: 2/28/2015 12:28:16 PMOn the topic of the supposed defensive construct, what if 05-032 is using it to protect and/or guide Chief to him? Also, I may have been confusing in my wording. What I meant by basing my theory upon your description was your description of 05-032's tomb, not the books.
