Bungie stupidly claims "Nobody plays with a mouse and keyboard anymore."
Seriously? Nobody plays with a mouse and keyboard anymore? Yeah apparently Destiny isn't being planned for PC also, and if the PC version isn't being planned out this early, it will probably be a half-assed and crappy console to PC port.
Also, I can't imagine playing an online shooter on PC with a controller. On a controller you need to steer your aiming reticule, on a PC you just point and click.

1 ReplyI would honestly be glad if they didn't allow mouse/keyboard, personally. Controllers are definitely at a disadvantage to mouse/keyboard, and I'd prefer to use a controller, because it is much, much more comfortable. I work on a computer all day. A controller feels much nicer in my hands, it's a much more natural position.

Shooters today are drastically different then shooters of yesterday. His word use was somewhat poor, I don't think he meant to insult PC gamers. Though, from a certain perspective, that may be correct in some sense. Consoles are far more profitable, especially given the abundance of piracy on PC platforms. Population counts of PC titles are also statistically far lower then console counterparts. As for console to PC ports... I never understood this frequent complaint. PC versions of multiplatform titles are always 10 to 20 USD cheaper then console versions when sold new and always have superior graphics and frame rates. Why a PC gamer seems to want even more when they already recieved more for less payout on a much smaller market is confusing. Sadly still, it's a shame this new title will probably have a pass on the PC. Would have been a very pretty game for sure.

Halo 2, also not ported by Bungie, but by a company called Hired Gun. Halo 3 and Reach weren't ported to the PC, and neither will Halo 4 (even though 343 made it, it is still a Halo game with the series being owned by Microsoft). So, this shouldn't be news for anyone. Also, I can't play any game with a keyboard/mouse, it just is annoying for me; a controller feels more "natural." Ever since I got my nice computer I have playing PC games, but with one my Xbox controllers.

Guys, just please let this thread die and stay dead. It's painfully obvious that the quote was not in any way meant as an attack on the PC as a gaming platform, even if it can be interpreted as such. This thread has no point in existing other than just to make people mad at Bungie for saying something they didn't, because of a quote that is continually being taken out of context and twisted in a way to make it mean something that it wasn't intended to. It's just childish.

The keyboard-mouse setup is really only clearly superior in most strategy games and RPGs, where you actually have a ton of commands to work with.

While I despise using a keyboard and mouse to play games and I use a gamepad when playing online, Bungie is full of shit on this one. Tons of people play keyboard and mouse.

I'd like to see the full interview as I have a sneaking suspicion that's it has, to an extent, been taken out of context. Alas, it's certainly induced mega-rage in a multitude of PC elitists, which is always hilarious.

To me, what he said is not even remotely ambiguous. He gave a litany of ways that Halo has transformed the FPS genre. Then, he simply said that nobody plays shooters the way they used to because no one wants to. From what he said, how could you possibly assume that he's saying "nobody plays with a mouse and keyboard anymore"? Because, to me, it seems as if he was verbalizing a forceful conclusion to the examples of change in the genre that he mentioned - not specifically stating that any of the changes Bungie made rendered past practices obsolete. He was saying that Bungie revolutionized the FPS genre by streamlining joystick controls to work with it. But, he did not explicitly state nor did he imply that their innovation resulted in nobody playing with a mouse and keyboard. He said that because of the innovations he just highlighted, FPS's are developed and played with differently as a whole. That's just how I see it anyway. I could see how his words are vulnerable to multiple interpretations, but I think everyone's outrage over the lack of a PC version announcement is causing a lot of people to jump to hasty conclusions.

That doesn't say that nobody plays with a mouse or keyboard anymore. He said they made Halo without a mouse or keyboard, and now nobody plays games like they did before Halo came out. He meant Halo revolutionized shooters, not that nobody plays on a PC anymore

Such as taking statements out of context and twisting the words so that it makes a truly outrageous statement, which incidentally bears no resemblance to it's original form, so that you feel vindicated because you have an eMob with pitchforks and torches in tow ready to go to town on the person(s) who wronged you.
