History is But a Cycle... Northeast Syoki Desert, Tatakai The still silence of the hot desert afternoon was shattered as five Orbital Assault Landing Craft broke the Tatakaian atmosphere, moving towards the great open sands of the desert. The five gargantuan spacecraft were visible from quite a ways away, each nearly three times as long and twice as tall as the average aircraft carrier. Each of the bristled with weaponry, their shields pulsing, visible blue hexagonal patterns visible around them. Each of them also bore the same insignia painted on the bow, an eagle soaring into the wind. After breaking atmosphere, they moved into their formation, forming a sort of perimeter around a large section of land, before moving to land. Dust and debris flew everywhere, the powerful thrusters of each OALC kicking it around. As soon as each of the craft touched the ground, their transport bays began to open, and hordes of men, armored vehicles, supply trucks, combat mechs, and aircraft poured out. Construction equipment followed, along with prefabricated fortifications. Everything they had bore the same insignia, the eagle flying in the wind. They were on Tatakai to establish their presence, courtesy of none other than Lucien Farcon and Inferno. Had any been around to see them, their gear appeared to be fairly advanced, though they were by no means super-futuristic. Most of their weapons appeared to be ballistic, though some of their soldiers sported some rather advanced-looking rifles. They appeared to sport varying units of power armored soldiers and combat hardsuits, along with varying hard, medium, and light armor. Tanks were the most notable thing, all of which looked to be somewhat based on 21st Century main battle tanks. Their armored vehicles appeared based upon both modern MRAPs and a futuristic redesign of German halftracks from the Second World War. Various artillery pieces were quickly moved into position, some self-propelled, others pulled by trucks. Missile defense systems, SAMs, and CIWSs were moved into place as the massive army began to deploy and construct what would be their main operating base. While the majority of the military force set about establishing their base on the planet, contingency units remained aboard the three supercruisers in high Tatakaian orbit. Their orbital weapons systems were primed, but utilizing them would be far too dangerous, and thus despite their readiness, they would not and could not be used. The sheer size of whoever this army was was massive, but what did their arrival have to do with anything? Why would such a massive force arrive out of nowhere? Or was it really out of nowhere? As the base began construction and defensive perimeters were set up, aircraft began their sorties from the OALCs, interceptors looking very similar to the 20th Century F-14 Tomcat multirole fighter, though perhaps a bit bulkier, sporting thrust vectoring nozzles rather than the usual afterburners. They were establishing air cover. With the fighters up, soon reconnaissance drones were sent up and out, and towards both the Dojo and Dojoville. With full visual established, the expeditionary force could be sent forwards to make contact. Such a force was less by an up-armored and heavily modified redesign of a halftrack. Sporting a mounted minigun and an armored troop transport bay, it led the column, followed by four more of its kind. Behind them, ten tanks, all looking somewhat similar to an Abrams, though definitely sporting more advanced armor patterns and cannons. Some appeared to be sporting rail cannons. All of them also carried a secondary turret atop their main cannon, sporting twin 25mm autocannons, with an M3A1 atop that for the commander. On the flanks of the group were several combat mechs, all carrying large shields and 25mm autocannons. Behind them were armored trucks, which presumably were carrying soldiers. All in all, the expeditionary force was quite ready should they be assaulted. Despite their intense armament, their goal was simple. Make contact with the Dojo and Dojoville. Make contact with the specified friendlies. The orders had been given to the commander of the expeditionary force, who also happened to be the commander of all of the forces now on Tatakai, a mercenary who was quite experienced with the Dojo at one time. Sidewinder sat atop the minigun on the lead halftrack, his cybernetic arm resting on the weapon’s receiver. His orders had come straight from Inferno. Inferno’s orders had come straight from Farcon. The group arrived on the outskirts of Dojoville the next morning, the sound of heavy armor nigh-unmistakable to anyone in the town. It wasn’t exactly as if they were going for stealth. Upon arrival in Dojoville, soldiers began piling out of the armored trucks, soon moving to surround their own vehicles, before the column advanced into the town. Sidewinder kind of assumed that driving an armored column straight into a civilian town would get someone’s attention. It worked better than sending one man. He rather liked using intimidation and shows of force to do his bidding for him. It generally worked.
Oh my God it’s good to be back doing what I do best. Open. Go find out what’s up in Dojoville.
• “Ain’t no other way to start it.” He shouted over the roar of the dozens of diesel engines around them. Most of his men seemed stalwart and unfazed by the newcomer, assuming that he was more than likely someone their commander knew, or someone that had been sent to contact them. “We ain’t had any contact with anyone except guys calling themselves Rubicon, big military group, actin’ real tough, usual shit. Other guys I’ve heard about, Trayven or something, they’ve yet to send anyone.” The mercenary said, eying the newcomer from beneath his mask. As the VTOLs flew over with their cargo, he looked up at it, watching it as it went. “Knowing what I’ve been told, I’d say it’s a good and safe assumption that there’s something in that container.”

"That," he shouted while pointing up, "is Hamlet. Big guy is the only thing I trust besides a few others from the Key. But Hamlet? He's had my back for a while now." The VTOLs began to descend, lowering the large storage container to the earth gently near Sidewinder and the agent. Yorick glanced over and crossed his arms, cocking an eyebrow from beneath his mask. "Now I hate boxing him up and shipping him here, but he's too big for any transport car that was coming down from orbit. Rubicon ain't anything special. PMC, bigger is better, that whole shtick. But the Trayven? See, the info I have says that they have some kind of ability to disable all tech. Exosuits and the like, gone just like that I think. And that, my friend, is where Hamlet comes in."

  • “You know I’d be concerned but I don’t think you can kill a good ole tank crew by disabling electronics. How do ya think the boys in Germany did it before all that shit? Come on, now. Takes a little more than software problems to disable a good army.” Sidewinder said, sounding quite amused. “Worst comes to worst I can fight with one arm. Ain’t my first rodeo.” He turned to watch the crate land, intrigued to see what was inside of it. He’d already gotten to see Assets Buck, Kingslayer, and White Death, and he was more than pleased with that prospect. As for the Asset Lurkers, he had to admit he wasn’t quite so fond, but then again, they had plenty of projects cooked up to fill that void anyways. “Besides, I think you and the big boys know that we’ve got a lot of biological weight to toss around, and I can’t see these guys really knowing what to do against a lizard that can tank an anti-tank launcher.”

  • "You're right there," Yorick laughed in agreement, "first I wasn't so comfortable with all these bioweapons walking around. Guess it's a pro and a con when you're hired by one of the top freaks in anomalous biology." The metal box met the ground, the light atop its main door turning from red to green as its lock disengaged. It began to open with a hydraulic hiss... or perhaps it was the thing that was inside growling. "My crew and I were contracted by the ASF back on Amoridia, so we have our fair share of experience with stuff that's not the most normal. The things people have here puts our stuff to shame in terms of weirdness. Everyone here is a walking weapon. You have enough experience with guys like these?"

  • “Tangoed with the Courier and that Wolfe kid. Kid ain’t his dad, though. Ain’t a cold sonofabitch. Been here a few times too, did a little work here and there. Nothin’ new.” Sidewinder replied, watching the crate with his arms crossed, interested in seeing just what the hell was inside.

  • "The Courier? I'll be damned," he laughed, "surprised you're still in one piece from the stories I've heard about him. You should visit the old man we have posted up around here, name of Mason Cartier. Has a reaaaaal hatred for Alex Wilson." When the ramp descended from the large container, the metal shuddered and groaned under something walking upon it... despite nothing being there. Something stepped onto the ground and left a massive imprint, not too different from the Jurassic BWMDs Farcon engineered himself for Hawkwind. It was invisible. And judging from the size of the reptilian claw prints, it was somewhere well above 20ft long. And it was making its way towards Yorick and Sidewinder. "As for the young Wolf, the boy hasn't carved his name in history like his Papa did. Every time we went out on a mission, most of the Key was scared pantsless when Cody Wolfe got resurrected."

  • “Lemme guess: Wilson shot him? Stole his girl? His wallet? His guns?” Sidewinder seemed completely unfazed by the approaching beast. He’d seen enough of what InGen had done. “Your boys are right to be afraid of the old man. You shoulda seen what he did back home...” There was an odd respect for the elder Wolfe in his words. Perhaps he’d seen Blackjack’s work personally.

Isabella knew an attempt at intimidation and a display of strength when she saw one. The Khaomites were all about their little shows of force - diсkmeasuring "but a fraction" of their forces were a favored stratagem if frightening grown men was the initial goal. Though the new military in town seemed to have more on their mind than just driving through with a powerful force. ————————————————— The newcomers would find that Dojoville had been taken some time ago, by both the faction of Rubicon and another, new group that had entered the fray. The buildings of the city appeared new, likely from being destroyed repeatedly, yet some would near a high, royal purple flag, the standard fluttering within the blue sky. Sitting in the center was the head of a golden lion, it's maw opened wide as it fluttered in the wind. The symbol of this foreign faction, most likely. As they carried on, the military would meet the patrols and members that served underneath this golden lion's banner: soldiers similar of their own ilk, yet adorned in armoring that was shaped in a more medieval manner. The armor was still functional and useful in a modern setting - light plates of kevlar and bullet-resistant material, accompanied by the rifles, pistols, and even longswords that were strapped to their waists, held by leather holstering. A few of the patrol units held mighty shields for crowd control and defensive measures, while the newcomers would catch a few of these.. knights, dragging off a few corpses. The stench of smoke and ash was in the air, only accompanied by the faint tint of burning flesh. Dojoville, for one, had changed. In the center, the group found themselves meeting a fairly large, yet transparent dome, where a fortress sat straight in the center. Trenches and spikes filled the dirt around the castle, with one entrance in, and one entrance out. Fellow facilities set up by Rubicon accompanied this main fortress, while that same lion flag flew overhead. While these individuals weren't of the Dojo, it would do well to establish some communication.

  • The smells of war were nothing that seasoned mercenaries feared nor were surprised by. The only thing that concerned Sidewinder was the entrenchment of these other forces. Rubicon had so far been less than entertaining to deal with, and he’d shown his disdain for them rather bluntly. As for these others, they looked like they could use a little help from a willing contractor. Selling gear made lots of friends, but first he had to actually find someone worth talking to who wasn’t going to give him attitude. Pushing forwards, his men ignored the civilians and the soldiers in the area, more focused on getting to the dome. Inferno had been pretty clear with instructions. Find the people in charge, establish a little bit of diplomacy, and make sure nobody got too cocky. It was simple work, something Sidewinder had plenty of experience doing. Entering a combat formation, his expeditionary force began a slow advance, wary of any potential attacks.

  • Their approach went without assault, as the gates that lead out of the garrison would creak, gears grinding as they would then open and make way for whomever was departing. Five cavalry horses, each rider other than their leader armed with automatic rifles, though they had not taken to drawing them upon Halkwind's forces just yet. Leading the group, two on their left and two on their right, was a figurine heavily cladded within plating befitting of a leader, though directed fire would certainly make short work of even such armoring, no matter what it was made of. These Trayven had acquired some materials, indeed. Dark violet weaves of a purple material draped the individual's shoulders and waist, while a large broadsword was kept to their side. Their face was hidden by a simple black helmet, one that belonged to a knight, and the visor of which covered their face. Though there was one thing for certain: this person was big, least beyond six feet tall. As the five horses came to halt outside of the safety of the barrier, the one in the lead would hop off of their steed, before taking a gloved hand to flip up their visor. That revealed a woman, scarred from battle and wear, yet still youthful to a degree. Gazing red eyes studied the approaching forces, while tangles of dark purple hair were kept hidden by the helmet. She seemed to be leading this operation, and thus awaited.. some sort of conversing, to declare peace. Thought it was a cocky move, no doubt. Stepping out, with no protection nor means of defense. Either she underestimated them, or simply understood them.

  • The fact that he’d be approached by a legitimate horse cavalry made Sidewinder feel a whole lot better. Assault rifles and horses were hardly a match for main battle tanks, halftracks bearing both autocannons and miniguns, and power-armor clad troops. Nonetheless, his action was not to be hostile nor instigating, at least no more instigating than bringing an entire armored column into the area. The approaching force was moving in a proper formation, personnel carriers to the inside, heavy armor outside, although Sidewinder’s command halftrack led the column, more or less a status symbol. The horses were dwarfed by the approaching vehicles, the meeting almost reminiscent of the Polish Army meeting the Third Reich’s Panzer Divisions. The woman who had leapt down to see the approaching force was greeted with the full roar of a mechanized battalion pulling towards her position. Soldiers wearing various types of advanced exosuits and carrying varying weapons could be seen on the inside of the column, along with the gunners atop each of the tanks. Sidewinder himself was visible with his upper torso out of the hatch of his command vehicle. Arriving at what was essentially a roadblock, his vehicle stopped, the rest of the column halting behind him. “Well boy do I think you and I are gonna get along!” He shouted over the roar of the halftrack’s diesel engine, his face hidden beneath his mask, his robotic arm atop the minigun before him.

  • "I hope so!" She responded, nodding her head towards Sidewinder. Isabella thought of him as something of a leader of the operation, or at least the one whom lead this detachment into the Dojo's grounds. The rest of the cavalry force remained behind, with units kept on the rooftops of buildings and within specific buildings themselves. Though they didn't seem to want the imposing look, nor to start a battle, they took precautions nonetheless. "Did the Rubi's give you guys some trouble? Thought I heard some chatter, nothing much though. My apologies!" "Rubi's" likely referred to Rubicon, and their initial response to Sidewinder's arrival. Isabella figured that anyone who drove right into town was either friendly for a time, or setting up something, so she assumed both and went to playing nice. For the time. "Isabella Trayven. Commanding officer of the Trayven forces here, nothing much. We gonna have some big dinner and negotiate or whatever? Or are we making things quick, here 'n now? Personally, I'm fine with either."

  • “Well sweetheart, I ain’t no national defender no more, but I can tell ya that with Rubicon and us stickin’ around, you might wanna take a look at what I have to offer. You know the last time anyone rode horses into battle was the damn Second World War? You might wanna look at an upgrade!” Friendly enough, but something about him screamed shifty. He was a mercenary. He was also advertising for goods. Business was what this was. Pure business. “Yeah, your big roided-up supersoldiers tryin’ to look all tough. All the Rubis like that?” He asked, remaining up on the gun of his command vehicle.

  • "Most of them are, yeah. They're better under the sheets and pulling triggers than negotiating, though I'm usually no different than 'em." Usually. Isabella could try playing that terrible game of lies and politics - she hated it, truly, swinging a sword was simpler - but she knew Rubicon to be more.. blunt, than the Trayvens, about their law and order. "We've got tech too, courtesy of Rubicon and some dumbasses in Khalosh - the horses are just for show, though a cavalry's still hella cool, effective when we're not fighting modernized assholes. Still, I like the sound of upgrades."

  • The radio handlers sent word to the convoy that a dispatch was being sent to their coordinates. Upon receiving word, the expeditionary force was quick to hold position and adopt a hull-down position should the inbound ship decide to act in a hostile manner. They were not taking any chances with a potentially hostile force. The tanks moved position to cover, as did the armored trucks, soldiers piling out and taking up defensive positions. The modernized halftracks shifted their own positions, their flak guns moving to face the sky in preparation for a potentially hostile force. With the force present on the ground, they would be a significant threat if engaged from any angle.

  • The ship did not engage, rather scanned in case the convoy decided to fire against them. Shortly after, it landed on the ground in front of them. One ARES-Class Atlas Titan, five advanced infantry, a spec-ops, two elite guards, and an ambassador in a unique exosuit were stationed on the ship. Yet only the last two categories exited.

  • Scanning yielded much the same result as visuals. They were hull-down and waiting. Watching the ship as it landed, they kept their flak guns and SAMs tracking it, but they did not fire. As the ship landed and the three individuals stepped out, the entire group of soldiers seemed to wait. As for the ambassador and his guards, while the scans didn’t pick it up, were pretty much surrounded by units on the ground. Nonetheless, no one fired, and there was a relative silence, the mercenaries waiting for the ambassador to actually do something.
