Different Difficulties in Destiny?

Do you think that there will be parts of the Destiny Universe that only the skilled will explore and the weak will die? What I mean is, will there be an area in Destiny that has a higher enemy count where unskilled or poorly equipped players will have an extremely low chance of survival? I'm curious because it would be awesome to say that you were able to take over a certain place that most don't return from alive. This would also allow players looking for a challenge a place to go, while other players could explore other structures/areas not so heavily protected by enemy forces.

  • From what I've gathered the game will learn from you and your gameplay, seamlessly adjusting difficulty levels accordingly. That said, there will probably be regions/zones that are particularly difficult, regardless of player skill level. It only makes sense.

  • The Moon. I hear it's so dangerous that it has been deemed a forbidden zone. I hope they do make some areas more challenging to the point where if you don't have good gear or experience then your chances of survival are slim.

  • Considering it will be co-op, unless there is something idk, then it will have to be by area/level not by character.

  • Back in PSO you could revisit old dungeons on higher difficulties and find new enemies and remixed bosses, some of them got preposterously tough. I would love to see "Legendary" level dungeons like this in Destiny, the kind of challenge where when people hear that you beat it they freak out. The kind of stuff that inspires "No armor, one weapon" speed run videos that everyone hypes over. After all, what better way to become legend? :-P

  • Yeah pretty much. At this point I'm presuming its simply the further away you go from the city the more difficult enemies become and in higher numbers. Can't wait to test my own and my friends collective strength to see how far we can go.

I may have just read the title, I'll leave the post as a symbol of shame.
I hope so[not]... I like the difficulty I saw in the demo. I think it'll just be about the enemy levels. It's unlike previous Bungie games where you are a Tank. You aren't anymore, you are one person and there are bigger things than you and it seems they did the balance greatly already. I think that's an aspect from MMOs it should bring into Destiny. One difficulty setting across the board. Makes accomplishing something worth doing. You'll soon learn you can't go up against a whole armada by yourself as you would in games like Halo. While it doesn't seem to hard to take out Fallen and private ranks, which allows for new/casual players to enjoy the game. Bigger bosses can't be taken head to head just spraying, and that's good. Another incentive for team play.
That's hard to say because what would it do if you go into a public event will it dumb down or or get harder maybe they should do like a difficulty system like kid Icarus sorry for useing that game as a guide but it had a 0 to 9.9 scale and if each player has their own scale when the join a fire team or a public event they average the scale of everyone to make it kind of fair and even for everyone, that would be pretty smart now where's my cookie?

  • This is an obvious answer. Most likely there going to be areas where monsters have numbers, power, etc. For example bases. Now for the weaker players it's most likely going to be closer to the last safe city. Check out our video about The Frontier!

    • oh I certainly hope so too. Im definitely not one of the best but im not one of the worst either. I want areas that test my skill level. I want areas that test what my squads can do. And also, I want areas where we can escape all the "little kids" that WILL also populate the universe........actually, I just thought of something. if they want to troll us, we can troll them by sending a group of them INTO that area or areas.

    • I read in one of the news sacks that one of the developer's liked to sit on the cliffs some where on Venus and watch the body count rise...

Of course there will be! That's what makes it fun. It's even more fun when the level difference between you and the enemy is really high and you and your friends are working together trying to survive. Challenging = satisfaction = fun.

    • Yep. I couldn't imagine an entire game where every enemy is the same level.

    • There will probably be different skill level raids/dungeons. Think how WoW does it.

    • In one of the mail sacks, one of the developers mentioned getting stuck in an area where all the bad guys were way too tough for his skill level. And he just kept getting super killed. I think that's a good sign there will be.

    • Yes. A good developer knows how to set skill tier levels. If you don't provide content that's challenging, you get the WoW problem: AKA everyone is bored because everything is accessible. If you really want players to have a sense of scope and mysticism in your world, you need to achieve what vanilla WoW did. If you saw a 60 running around decked out in T3 Naxxramas gear, you know the dude was a badass. (and had no life) So yes, there should be certain areas of Destiny that are very hard to finish.
