Is Destiny Going to be Chaos or Casual?

I'm thinking about asking this question in the mail sack this week, but I want to get all of your opinions first: Is Destiny going to be a game where you are constantly attacking enemies, or are there going to be some peaceful/calm exploration opportunities? Can I drive around a vehicle without huge machineguns attached to it (like Halo's Transport Warthog) and lower my weapon if I choose to? Simply put: Is Destiny going to be a search-and-destroy type of game or not?

  • I think we'll have opportunities to fly casual.

  • Both, at the same time.

  • It's safe to say that it's both. You can easily chill at the last safe city or you can go battle around and go cruising.

  • As kind of inferred and brought up before, it seems like Destiny will probably be a well-defined pace of action and exploration. For instance, even though the game is technically set up like an MMO, you're not going to see thousands of players in places where Bungie wants you to feel more... a sense of awe, maybe a sense of loneliness or mystery. That's why they've made their new seamless matchmaking system. Hope that makes sense, its been a long day and I have a little Gin in me...

    • It's probably going to be like minecraft or skyrim. You get thrown in a world and you don't know where anything is. You just move. You might bump into an alien and a fight will start. Or you might notice an alien far away and decide to sneak up on it and plan your attack wisely. So in short there will times where you want to actively find aliens and take em out. While sometimes you just want to stroll but happen to come up on enemies.

    • I think both, extra seasoning required. I think Destiny represent will appear to all players of casual and/or hardcore gamers. It's a wide fanbase and if you want to keep players coming back for 40/50 hours a month after release, you have to address these questions. I see the main "campaign" as something you're able to experience as a solo or coop game. Mainly, you're able to see other players in the world of "Destiny" but they aren't able to interact with your progress if you're in story mode. I think it would be a bit annoying to have players constantly grieving or interfering with your single player progress, making you start over again. But if you're into free roam, grouped up with buddies, you're fair game ;-)

    • No idea, but my bet is half and half. Also, the Transport Hog didn't have a giant machine gun mounted on the back. That's the Standard Chain Gun Hog. :P

I'd like Destiny to be chaos. Why, you ask? Because Game of Thrones.
Petyr Baelish: Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb but they refuse. They cling to the realm, or the gods, or love—illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is.
The idea of exploration of the terrain has a lot of appeal to me. I'm looking forward to fighting droves of enemies but I value the opportunity to find some previously unseen vista as well. I feel Bungie has placed an emphasis on ambiance and the aesthetic beauty of Destiny and will want players to have the time to simply enjoy their good work.

        • At their GDC presentation, they commented on making the encounters like "30 seconds of fun". Bungie is good at creating exciting engagements on a smaller scale (compared to long set-piece moments)

        • I think they already answered a question like this in a mail sack, and they pretty much said there will be plenty of calmness. That you won't just constantly be fighting.

        • I'd like to be able to change the settings to lower or increase the encounter rate. Maybe something like a repel from Pokemon where you are completely safe for a certain amount of time?

        • I ask this question just because I picture myself driving a high speed dune-buggy or jeep through a desert or around some open piece of land. I don't really want to look threatening all the time, since part of the time I'll just be exploring. If anyone remembers that dune-buggy thing from Halo: Reach's campaign when you drive Carter and Jorge around in the first level, that's what I'm sort of picturing. A vehicle simply meant for a faster means of transportation.

          • I hope that there are opportunities for peaceful/calm exploration; Jacquelyn knows this kind of thing very well, ask her

BOTH. From what we know, it'll be casual in the city and adventurous and "body filled" when we go outside of it.
