There is no answer, I doubt even Bungie knows, and even if there was, what are the chances it would be changed again. So much residue from the original story change, I would guess Bungie is still trying to figure out where to head at this point.

The more you know!

I wish MatPat's video was about the Vex. From what he dug up from his Fnaf videos I'm sure he can find some way with the Vex. I guess we will have to wait for "soon". Don't ask what that means, I have no time to explain.

Edited by acia zemko: 10/22/2015 9:50:39 AMWrong on traveler or time. If Master Chiefs body is on Earth and scan able. Then its within Halo story arc and way later. Catch on this is technology is no where near what humans had in Halo. Something Bungie did not think of again. Golden age and great technology...where is that technology?
-
MatPat didn't even comb the lore himself. He just went to Reddit and looked at what had been upvoted. Of course he'd be wrong without putting in the time on his own.
-
Didn't really read this post but pre-Destiny the traveller was evil.
-
Thank you, I love MatPat's channel but I wish he would have said it was the I guess.... Dead Story? And clarified that it just inst the case anymore.
I'm going to end this with a brief discussion about "good" and "evil". They are not concrete standpoints: they depend on who's talking. The Traveler is good because it brought us a Golden Age, nurture our growth, and helped us fight the Darkness. The Darkness is evil because it brought the Hive and tried to exterminate us. To the Hive, the Traveler is the evil one, and the Darkness is the good one. Additionally, let's talk about their purposes. The Traveler wants a utopia universe with no wars or dictators; a universe built on peace and prosperity. The Darkness wants a universe built on ruthlessness. In the Darkness's universe, something is only worthy of existence if it cannot be defeated. If you can be defeated, you should not exist.
This is the important bit. This is where we see the division between those who subscribe to theories of absolute good and evil and those who understand that without perspective, morality is meaningless. Effectively we cannot EVER claim that an alien is "evil" because we can never share their perspective on life. Their culture and perspective are LITERALLY alien to us. An alien may be our enemy. It may be that an alien race has to be taken on in war because their actions will lead to our destruction otherwise - but this does not make them "evil". Consider Ender's Buggers. They were simply trying to communicate with us, they thought that we would understand. They were just saying hello when they carved through whole colony populations like butchers... surprisingly though, not evil.

The traveler's only goal is self preservation. Not to protect humanity, hence why Rasputin shot it down when it tried to leave us, like it did with the fallen.
-
Instead of arguing like an idiot about things that i don't know, i'll just read grimore and wait to see what's in Destiny's future. (Not talking about OP)
-
Pretty sure the traveler being an asshole and creating a giant wave on the hives original planet (by aligning the planets, syzygyzy) wasn't such a good guy move? I guess the hive could have been mistaken, but I dunno.

Been reading. The worms and the traveler appear to be enemies, but that's all that seems to be shown for sure. Not all that fights evil is good. Evil by its very nature will fight itself. How do we know that the traveler is not just another like the worms. What if the traveler uses the golden ages to advance itself? In short fast forward the evolution of a civilization then harvest the end state. The traveler could even be working with the worms. The worms consume destruction and the traveler needs space to build. So in a giant cycle the worms consume a part of reality, then the traveler rebuilds it. A cycle of planting and harvest that would benefit both. The more I look into this the more it seems like yin and yang. Opposing forces that feed off each other and create balance, but at the same time the good contains a small bit of evil and the evil contains a small amount of good. All of this could be due to the story being rewritten and contradicting lore being forgotten. But with Osiris being around, it would seem like the intention is to create mystery and doubt in the player base towards the traveler. I'm hoping they're setting up some good plot twists and maybe even critical choices for the community itself. Maybe like a choose your own adventure kind of interactive plot.

Edited by your f(r)iend: 10/22/2015 8:38:33 AMHe could be right the fact is you don't have a clue...
-
Have you read the book of sorrow? It even says the only reason the hive have the worms is because the traveler tried to kill oryx (before he was oryx) and all of his species that is why the hive hunt the traveler so you and Matt pat are neither right or wrong
-
Um this had way less facts than the video so for now you are wrong. Such a waste reading this your reasoning is subpar and foolish. For now I'll keep an open mind until the story unfolds (except your theory of course)

Psions were not enslaved

Didn't read your rant and i don't care about the traveler being good or evil

Edited by Mister2014_: 10/22/2015 9:19:35 AMI hope the traveler is evil would make sense. Other than the fact that there were massive internal issues within bungie regarding the story. http://kotaku.com/the-messy-true-story-behind-the-making-of-destiny-1737556731 The fact is we do things like killing groups of mobs and have no idea why, and they seem to be peaceful except we destroy them all with no explanation as to why we are. The kabal, I mean, poor guys, we kill them for no other reason than they are in the way. Also a final comment, dont try and look too deep into the lore or story there is none, you're wasting your time. Bungie are making things up as they go, and trying to patch massive holes in the non existent story.
In the Darkness's universe, something is only worthy of existence if it cannot be defeated. If you can be defeated, you should not exist.
But how can you not exist if you've been defeated ?
-
Rasputin injured the traveller so it could not leave. What kind of supreme being brings a shitload of darkness to a world and then tries to leave it to defend its self against such a ruthless race?
-
the traveler ran to earth to hide like a bitch, now we gotta deal with its bullshit, thanks for dropping the darkness on us like a plague of non stop assholes, as for the awoken, that would be the day I let some bitch not even human think she has some -blam!-ing say in my solar system.
-
If I'm not mistaken, during one interview with the actual devs they were asked something about if the traveler is actually evil and their reply was hesitated and something along the lines of there's more to it than people think. I don't remember the details because I take 99% of what bungie says as bs, but I'll find a source if I can unless someone beats be to it. But, what say you to that op
-
What hitler wanted too lol
-
It's hilarious to me how much of a know it all you think you are.
-
In destiny alpha he was evil.
-
I think people need to stop watching those stupid -blam!-ing Netflix shows and AHS. Sometimes an apple, is just an apple
