Destiny Math Teaser
A Vandal can cross a bridge in 10 minutes. A Captain can cross the same bridge in 5 minutes. A Dreg can cross the bridge in 2 minutes and it only takes the Shank 1 minute to cross the bridge. All four are on one side of the bridge and can only cross NO MORE THAN two at a time. They are crossing at night so they need a flashlight. Each time two cross someone has to go back with the flashlight. They have 17 minutes to cross the Bridge before the Guardian come to kill them. In what order do they cross?
There is one and only one way to do this.

Several minutes of headscratching confusion for the Guardians watching them down their scopes the entire time.

1 ReplyWell... Since the shank hovers/flys... They can go in any order as long as the shank follows any of them. Seeing as no weight would be added... Or are we going off of only one person/thing across the bridge, NO MATTER WHAT.

Yeah, the shank doesn't need a flashlight, vandal and captain go first for 10min, shank gets the flashlight for the dreg, 1min+1min, then they cross +2min, total 14 minutes, since it seems like you didn't factor return trip time for the original solution. Unless you meant that they only need a flashlight if 2 travel

Edited by TheHunterBrony: 8/9/2014 9:19:40 PMMy answer is, since the shank can fly it doesn't take up space on the bridge so I would have the captain and dreg go with the shank and have the shank come back to get the vandal and since the captain takes five minutes and since the dreg was with the captain so max time for both is five minutes plus the time for the shank to go back is one minute and ten minutes for the vandal to go across so in total sixteen minutes!!

All the others go in what ever order they want and it's still done in 10 minutes without breaking the rules plus nobody has to go back. You don't add the times together peeps cause they are crossing at the same time. The rules are no MORE than 2 but you can have just 1 crossing. The vandal will be alone the last 2 minutes but no rules are broken. BOOM

Also, the shank can fly, so it is never really ON the bridge. So here's my answer. The Shank holds the flashlight throughout the entire event. The Captain and the Vandal go first, with the shank following with the light. 10 minutes later the captain and vandal are on the other side. The shank turns around, and it reaches the waiting dreg at 11 minute mark. The shank and the dreg then cross, finishing in 13 minutes EDIT: Alternately, If my shank-is-a-flying-unit loophole is invalid: The dreg and the shank go first, the the shank goes back with the light. 3 minute mark. The shank and the captain go next, the shank goes back with the light. 9 minute mark. The shank and the vandal cross the bridge. They don;t make it to side B until 19 minutes, but they aren't at side A when the guardian arrives there at the 17 minute mark, so they all survive.

I Fist of Havoc them all. The blast sends the Dreg and Shank over the gap in about a minute as their bodies disetagrate. The Vandel is next as I storm Fist him over the gap in the next minute. The Captian will join them in the next minute as I just punch him in the face til he flies over to join the rest and Arc Light particles. Done in 3 minutes.

2 RepliesTwo choices First choice Shank has flash light Vandal and shank start crossing 1 min shank will cross the bridge and turn around and head back At 10 min vandal reaches the other side and captain crosses with shank At 11 min shank returns to the other side At 15 min captain finished crossing and dreg and shank leave At 17 min all are crossed Second choice Vandal has flash light Vandal and captain leave At 5 min captain finished crossing and dreg starts At 7 min dreg finished crossing and shank starts At 8 min shank finished crossing At 10 min vandal finished crossing 7 extra min to spare

If 2 and only 2 can cross it's impossible, seeing as no one can cross without the flashlight as you have to account for the time it takes for one person to go back across with the flashlight. Shank will go first with vandal + 10 min Shank goes back +1 min Shank goes with Captain +5 Shank goes back +1 Shank goes with Dreg +2 total 19 min ::if not counting time to go back then same order will get it done::
