Can someone help me identify literacy techniques?

I'm setting myself up for an essay, but something tells me that some of the techniques I've identified aren't correct. I'll post the quotes here, minus the technique interpretations. 1. "My son is everything to me." 2. "Then you realize where you are. Even though you can't get the image out of your head of what could have been; you see the beauty in what you have." 3. "In my heart, I still loved her." 4. "But as much as I want to remember, it's only the artist's impression that I see. The painted smile is where I belong, not the sneer I see now." 5. "Even after forty years my father was not reconciled to it." 6. "If you could have your time over again, would you do it all the same?" 7. "Most of all I remember his strong, bare, sun-darkened arms on either side of me as I sat on the petrol tank." 8. "This is all we have left. Just a mess of a once great country, like a Beauty who had slipped and fallen in the mud. It's not our home anymore and her dress is ruined."
