Why are people segregating on these? Isn't there a shared player base between them?
Right now I'm looking at the option of getting an XB1 only because I don't feel much like starting fresh over at present, and the console/controller's appearance is appealing to me. Yet the prospect of the shiny bits of stuff that the PS4 version has plus the fact that I could also play FFXIV on PS4 -- you can thank Microshaft for screwing themselves out of THAT game -- are the temptations that are staring at me and saying it's worth the extra 50$.
What's the difference between the past-gen and the next-gen? Why is there separation between these two? Is there a better way to sell me on an XB1 than keeping my meager progression and its own aesthetics?

I went with the XB1 since I already have a Friend List full of good people. I had a PS3 for a bit and aside from one or two exclusive titles, it just didn't blow my socks off.
