Well first of all you need a wider selection of pencils and their hardness. Especially for the light shadows. These look not good. Also drawing in color gives more depth then just black and white pencil drawing. The pontential is there. I dont know on what size you drawing it, but I always was trying to use as much as possible of the paper area I could.
