Yes, but as we've seen the flood, given enough knowledge from hosts, can be quite capable pilots. He could have sent a ship or two to earth right before going to the Ark. On this, I agree. I didn't really think about it before, but you're absolutely right.

    He only had High Charity.

  • Yes, but High Charity was bound to have at least a few ships left on it.

  • If it did, they were probably destroyed or taken during the Great Schism.

  • I meant left over from the Great Schism. There were still thousands of Covenant forces/citizens/politicians aboard High Charity when the Flood arrived. It seems highly likely that not all of them escaped, and therefore any personal or military vehicle they would have used was left behind.

  • Okay, then let's say he launches them from High Charity then what? They'd just get shot down by Earth's Defense Grid.

  • It is both stated and seen in Halo 2 that at least two defense platforms were destroyed. I think you can see where I'm going with this. Also, if the Gravemind was next to Mars, why didn't he send Flood forces there? The Covenant went right on past Mars and moved straight to Earth. Mars still had a population. A considerable population.

  • Mars got shreked by the Covenant dude. Anyway, during the Great Schism the Sangheili and Jiralhanae actively destroyed any vessels the Flood had, or were capable of getting.

  • Really? This must have been stated in one of the books. I've read most of them, but not all of them, especially not the more recent ones. Do you know where this was stated? I'm asking out of genuine curiosity.

  • Which fact?

  • The one about Mars. I've been under the impression that the Covenant were so dead-set on getting to Earth that they just ignored every other planet along the way. At least, in the Sol system.

What about In Amber Clad? Obviously the ship received some pretty heavy damage when it jumped into the middle of high charity, but there had to be some pelicans or broadswords on board.

  • Again, the Loyalists and Separatists made sure that no Flood Infected vessels were left standing. They were dead set on this too. There was a period during the Great Schism where the Jiralhanae and Sangheili just stopped fighting and allied together to destroy all local Flood forces.

  • We first learned about Mars being attacked in Halo: Uprising. Some other subsidiary information augments what we know as well. Additionally, we know that the Covenant attacked every human colony in Sol. Bleh. Thought I knew where the source was for the second one. It's somewhere in Halo Waypoint's Universe section. I'd find it, I'm just in class right now.

  • Oh. That explains it. Never read Uprising. The style of it never really appealed to me. :P I'm an idiot. Same here. Just killing time after finishing a quiz.
