Only reason I think it is is because he is still alive, and the expression the stormtrooper gives in the trailer. I think the emperor transfered his life to that stormtrooper, and slowly works his way to becoming the inquisitor.

Well what they did is made everything outside the movies no longer canon so that they'd have more room to work with.

True, but they are using some elements of the book. I feel like this could be one because not many people would expect it. Then again it could also cause an uproar.
