*CAUTION* Destiny Can Ruin Your Plasma TV!

This is a warning to all Destiny players who are currently using a plasma tv. Do not play Destiny exclusively over the course of a few months. This can cause possible permanent damage to your beloved tv! This happened to my tv with average play time since launch. The problem lies with the bottom left corner of the HUD containing the super meter, the grenade symbols and the weapon symbols. Most games have static HUD's, but this isn't an issue because pretty much all games have some sort of transparency to the HUD or at least the option to make it transparent. Unfortunately Destiny's HUD on the bottom left is not transparent, it's bright white and bright yellow. Bungie doesn't even offer the option to make it transparent or even less bright! The combination of relatively dark backgrounds with super bright solid hud elements is too much of a risk for plasma! Obviously they did not have plasma tv owners in mind when making this decision. Here is an example of my tv with a white background And here is one with a yellow background I have been attempting to get this image off my screen for a few days now with only slight improvement. Plasma tv burn in on 2009 and up models is almost impossible. Key word, ALMOST! Hopefully over the course of a few months it will fade to be unnoticeable. Also if anyone was curious I have a Panasonic ST50 that's barely two years old and it's the best looking tv I have ever seen. Incredible response time, black levels and color! I've played countless games on this tv with no issues ever until Destiny. This has pretty much stopped me from playing the game. *edit* For anyone wondering why I would buy a plasma. Simple answer, best picture you can buy! And for half the cost of top of the line led/lcd tv's. I had an led beforehand that simply had too much imput lag even in game mode, and lackluster picture. I was compelled to buy after playing on a friends pioneer kuro. *TLDR* Bungie needs to add the option to customize our huds or at least transparency options like pretty much every other game in existence to minimize the risk to plasma tv owners of strong image retention or worst of all, permanent burn in. *EDIT* After reading the replies plenty of other people have had this same exact issue WITH DESTINY ONLY. Average play time shouldn't ruin our tv's! Bungie, we can play plenty of other games without fear of damage. Please take us into consideration! Game on fellow plasma owners, just not on Destiny...

  • Happens with anything you leave on screen for a while. There should be an option to reset your pixels and wipe them back to fresh

  • This is why I've avoided plasma TVs. This is, from what I've heard, a common occurrence with them.

    • Your tv has a game mode. Put it through on that and it changes pixels to prevent burn. Also send video feed through a receiver in game mode does the same thing. I've had my plasma for 6 or 7 years and it's got LOTS of gaming hours on it

    • Did you try the white wash option and the color wash option?? Also put your screen pixels on orbital. It moves the pixel colors around enough to keep screen burns from happening but not enough that you would notice it.

    • I haven't had this problem but my plasma is much older than yours (2005). Burn in is typically a problem for the first hundred hours or so which is why the manufacturer will tell you not to watch things or play games that may cause an image to burn in during that breaking in period. And I agree, plasma is still the best picture especially when it comes to true dark.

    • Unfortunately I had the same problem. 10 or so years ago, with halo 2. Now I have an LED LCD TV, which apart from being cheaper than plasmas, are much cheaper to run. (which is a valid consideration)

    • Why the -blam!- would you buy a plasma TV? They have the best picture but the shortest life of HDTVs. For slightly lower quality I'd rather it last longer buying an LED

    • Who still plays on a tv? You should invest in a monitor.

      • I've got a STW 50 too(The European Version) yeah, same problem but "ruined" is a exaggeration - hardly see it in most content, bottom left side is not critical like the upper right side, I still love and enjoy my Plasma, even more since I know that there are no more plasmas out there.

      • You bought the wrong brand of led tv then, you literally can NOT get a better picture quality without lag than the 4k Led tv, and most of the new TVs have calibration to get rid of lag, you would shit your pants in my living room.

      • I thought you were never supposed to play any games on a Plasma because it will burn a ghost image into your screen..

        • A lot of games have this problem. Unlike Destiny, though, a lot are played through a combination of menus and/or cutscenes. Because we lack both of those in any large forms, we spend almost all of our time with our HUD's taking up the screen. Minecraft had a raging problem with it when it came out and they added transparency to it after a later update. Fixed it for all but the most extreme cases. That said, I highly doubt Bungie will do anything about it, much like the issue with there being no Audio settings whatsoever. They feel that the balance they've struck is the best possibly scenario without having to add more to the minimalistic menu system.

          • Let me list your problems. 1. You bought a plasma. 2. You should have known issues with plasma. 3. You bought a plasma. 4. Knowing issues with plasma, you should know how to balance it better. 5. Other games CAN do similar damage to your screen. You just didn't play them as much as this one at long periods of time. Bungie 1 You 0. 6. Alter your screen settings to better allocate your color problems. Settings. You are given a controller for a reason. 7. You bought a plasma. Thus through all this reasoning, stop complaining about something YOU caused.
You bought a plasma.
• Wow when the game first came out and people started glimmer farming in loot caves and what not , there were some concerned gamers out there posting thread and reddit about screen burn in but everyone laughed it off as a joke and here we are almost 5 months later and we have proof of screen burn in. I'm not saying you glimmer farmed in loot caves or anything, I'm just stating there were some gamers out there that saw this coming a mile away. I really hope your expensive t.v. isn't ruined indefinitely. .If it is I highly recommend going 4k led..I have an lg uhd and it's gorgeous
