Uhh, Mars is the furthest ROCKY planet from the Sun. The gas giants are much farther away. Some are 80times+ farther away than Earth. Mars is about, on average, only 50% further from the Sun than Earth. And for Mars to be covered in ice it would need lots of something freezeable. And at its temperature that would pretty much be water. It's red btw due to all the iron oxide that is prevalent on the surface.
