Why is Mars not WHITE

Why would the furthest planet from the Sun not be covered in ice and look like a desert? Space Magic? These things confuse me

O,o what the actual f**k? mars isn't the furthest planet from the sun. while it's theorized that mars, at one time, had liquid water, and possibly even life, it currently has no protective magnetic field like the earth does...scientists suspect that it did, at one time, but that it collapsed, allowing solar wind to slowly strip away the atmosphere. this loss of atmosphere would have caused liquid water to evaporate away into space, leaving only the solid ice at the poles, intact. the sand is the color it is, because of the high iron content. these things most likely confuse you, because you slept through every science class you ever had in school....
