Why is Mars not WHITE
Why would the furthest planet from the Sun not be covered in ice and look like a desert? Space Magic? These things confuse me

Edited by Tucker: 1/28/2015 3:57:40 AMUhh, Mars is the furthest ROCKY planet from the Sun. The gas giants are much farther away. Some are 80times+ farther away than Earth. Mars is about, on average, only 50% further from the Sun than Earth. And for Mars to be covered in ice it would need lots of something freezeable. And at its temperature that would pretty much be water. It's red btw due to all the iron oxide that is prevalent on the surface.

8 RepliesDear god he is not trolling. (Or is he?) Well first off, this isn't astrophysics, it's common sense. Why is Mars red in all your textbooks and on the interwebs if it's covered in snow? You can even see Mars using a telescope on some occasions. There is not much water on Mars. I admit water on Mars has been confirmed (water too op, bungie pls nerf) but not enough to form large amounts of precipitation. Why do you think Mars expeditions have failed so many times? Because it's too "snowy?" No. Scientists have failed many times trying to reach Mars because it is too hot, and would melt the spacecraft or rover.
