Maybe he had the Unstoppable perk. Sunsingers are nigh invulnerable during Radiance, so Titans should be the same way during their super.

This is most probably, as I've been killed many times during the animation

I never use Shoulder Charge, instead, I use Unstoppable. Shoulder Charge is a waste honestly.
