Trying to get better at timing the sword... looking for input from master sword bearers. Suggestions?

Im the only 32 in my raid group for the moment, and that means everyone wants me to run the sword, but I do not have very good timing and get only 2 and sometimes just 1 hit on him. This may have been okay on normal, but as a hunter, I'm getting requests to run sword on HM CE and I would like to be able to say I can do it competently. Some people are good at it, and I've seen others struggle as well, so I'm sure it comes down to skill. Skills can be learned if practiced and coached. I need some coaching. Suggestions?

  • Get a feel for the battle. After a while you get the timing down of how long Crota takes to hit his knee. Sometimes you'll be lucky neough to see the bar and know when he's down. Or better yet, you'll have someone shooting at him that knows when to tell you to get there. If you're only getting one hit on Crota, then either you're waiting for Crota to be down before approaching him, or are playing way too cautiously. As others have said, bladedancers using invisibility have an advantage, but it comes down to the person behind the controller more than anything. Watch some videos on YouTube, and look at what they do. When in game, keep an eye on what Crota is being hit with. If you see rockets, get your ass close to him fast, if you see wolfpack rounds, even faster. If you don't see those, then you can play conservative.

  • When you grab the sword and jump on the right side rock, you crouch to activate invisibility. Your team should not shoot at Crota until you are about to go invisible. You need to be the one that tells them when to start shooting Crota. You need to tell them right as you are about to turn invisible. When you turn invisible they should already be shooting (or firing their first shot at) Crota. You should jump up there immediately and he should be falling to his knee right as you get to him. The key to all of this is timing. This is where consistency in your fireteam (or communication if you are doing it with new fireteam members) is key. What weapons they are using to shoot Crota makes a big difference in how fast he goes down. They should use the same fire pattern (same weapons) every time so you can get the timing down on your approach and anticipate the right moment so you get there when he falls to his knee. Good luck!

  • Class doesn't matter, either be on the left or right rock waiting. When ready, tell your group to fire rockets( jelly horn preferred) after seeing them make contact with Crota is when you jump up and start hitting him. Should be able to always get 3 hits, 4 if you time it perfectly. The just simply run back to the rock, swing the sword if you must. Then just rinse, lather, repeat. If you have a really good team, you can easily take him down 3 times with one sword. That's all there is to know.

  • You have the upper hand with a blade dancer. Go invisible on either side hidden by the rocks and just wait for your team to down Crota. You can stand really close without him seeing

  • I'm a master at the sword. Honestly. . Best advice I can give is to get a reliable fire team and when you say FIRE they unleash rockets so by the time ur at his feet he's going down and your already swinging. Also, when you get away from him aftwr hitting use the Swipe it gets u away faster but be carefull if auto aim with it.

  • Use invis, u could maybe get another hit or two, either do Rb Rb RT Rt, or just RT as many times as you can

  • Use blade dancer. Hit him then drop sword and blink strike him to go invis and wait till they down him again get like 4. Do you have a team with 2 or 3 ghorns?
