I have bought an ice breaker in the past and have gotten one from crucible. Both are "earned" if such a term is even a thing. I worked to do the weekly heroic strike or nightfall (and not rage at the gift of strange coins). I worked to do crucible. Tbh earning isn't a thing, but if you think it is, both ways I aquire an ice breaker are from working or "earning".
