Well, I have two thoughts for this. One, I'd join as soon as I thought a draft was imminent. Drafts are used to fill enlisted ranks, typically infantry, and typically because they're getting killed.
I'm too smart for infantry. College degree in engineering, demonstrated leadership skills. I'm not going to take a risk of being handed a rifle and shoved to the front lines.
Second, I think mandatory civil service would do our country well. Could be military, engineer corps, peace corps, or some new area.
Second, I think mandatory civil service would do our country well. We will have a general that would be recognised as a god. A whole country revolving around military strength then we
call ourselves New North Korea
-
Funny, but I think the bulk would be non-military.
-
Just like North Korea. Those are the peasants who farm, clean and care for the military.
-
We do that too. Except farmers, producers, and manufacturers are paid in exchange for their physical support of the military.
-
That's now, but if being in the military was mandatory then either the pay for being in the military is decreases, which will cause an uproar and rebellion or wages of people supporting the military will be decreased.
-
And I don't think that everyone should be forced to be in the military.
-
mandatory civil service would do our country well.
That's a clever way to say slavery.

What do you call forced labor? In your plan whay happens if some one refuses?
-
I don't know. Haven't fleshed it out.
-
Slavery is defined as involuntary subjection to another. Forcing someone to work against their will sound awfully similar to me even if you give them money. For example, please don't Ban for this I'm just making a point, if you force yourself on me against my will.and have your way with my back side that's -blam!-. If you then give me $10 it would still be -blam!-.
-
You have other options. You could give up your citizenship.
-
So.... work, or be forced at gun point to leave your home, friends, and family even though you haven't committed any crime or done anything morally wrong? Even murders and child molesters get to keep their citizenship, but if you refuse to work against your will you're out of here? Come on son. That shit cray cray.
-
Refusing to pay taxes isn't morally wrong either.
-
What? Did I miss part of this conversation? Or are you just trying to change the topic to save face?
-
Alright, old woman, (this is what I figure I'll call you since I have been so affectionately named son) my argument so far is that a draftee is not a slave. They are not a slave because they get paid and have multiple options if they choose not to serve. Slaves greatly lack these perks. I thought you would understand that taxes and mandatory service have a similarity considering that you could leave the country if you don't comply in each situation. If you don't see that these things make it extremely different from being owned by another human being I don't think I can convince you otherwise.
-
Slavery is defined as being involuntarily subjected to another. Forcing me to pick up a rifle and kill seems awfully similar. It is true you have other choices. So did plantation slaves, they didn't HAVE to work, but they would be beat of they didn't. Saying, "you have a choice" is a cold comfort when the alternative is the end of your life as you know it. Finally, the income tax has been argued to be immoral as well. It actually explicitly prohibits an income tax in the text of the constitution. We didn't have one for a long time in this country until they amended it. Forced military participation is morally wrong, when you say I have to go to the military or else, you're saying I am not my own person. On top of that, it's terrible for troop moral, which is a big reason the US doesn't have a Draft anymore. I am a firm believer that the only legitimate use of force is in response to the use of force.
-
Agree. Like I said, I haven't fleshed it out. I just see a lot of issues in our country that I believe could be solved with mandatory service (if it was rub properly, which it obviously wouldn't).
-
Thank you for not banning me.
-
Edited by Prometheus25: 1/15/2015 8:17:40 PMLol, I'm smart enough to distinguish intention.

Slaves don't get paid.
-
Forced labor = slavery
-
I've never seen that definition.

With $$

If i force my dick in your butt, but then give you $10 does that mean I didn't -blam!- you?
