I WANT to move to Toronto, Canada. Have you ever been there? How is it? I've done my research on everything from safety to housing to schooling, so i like what I see. Plus, your country is much more nicer to people of any ethnic group

  •
Plus, your country is much more nicer to people of any ethnic group
Not true at all. We harbor some of the most racist people in a western country. Don't let our left winged government fool you. Immigrants get blatantly ignored and ostracized by Canadians.

It's not everyone's cup of tea but it is a very good place. However it does have quirks so depending on your preferences and desires those things may grate on you. - People are polite but generally cold and uninterested and don't want to get involved in strangers lives. - The transit system is horribly underfunded and a disaster. - Drivers are incredibly rude and have a massive sense of entitlement (blame our insane ex-mayor Rob Ford for that). - The winters can be long and cold and the summers are very hot and humid. The extremes may get to you eventually. - The city is as a rule incredibly prudish. Good luck finding fun stuff to do late at night. Alcohol stops being served close to 2am and there is very little street life except in select areas in the downtown region. If you've ever been to Europe you'll find it appalling. As a rule, people just want to "get shit done" here. Everyone is rushing all the time. Another way of thinking about Toronto is that it often compares itself to New York but always falls short. On that note, a frequent comparison of the people in the two cities is that Torontonians are polite but New Yorkers are nice. Stand on a street corner in NYC long enough and someone will ask you if you're lost. Do the same in Toronto and you'll be ignored all day. If you ask someone directly they'll recoil a bit, as if to say "you actually invaded my personal space to make a communicative gesture!! Ick!!" And will answer the bare minimum to get you out of their hair. It'll be very hard to make a social life here unless you make great efforts and plug yourself into an activity where you can meet people with similar interests over a long period of time and thus have them be comfortable enough with you to want to hang out. Otherwise, spontaneously meeting new friends is nearly impossible. Feel free to ask anything else. I've lived here for over 20 years now so can address almost any question you may have. If you wonder why I may seem to sound jaded it's because (a) I am a little, but (b) more importantly, you said you read all these good things which are ok on paper, but on the ground, there are quirks about the city and culture here that anyone thinking of moving here should know. Not to dissuade you, but for the purposes of full disclosure. It's not everyone's cup of tea here that's for sure. :)

  • I'd like to get out of the US when I'm older. Canada is better in many aspects from crime, life expectancy, educational systems, overall friendliness. Toronto, is of course, a huge city, full of different people and crime is a thing obviously and a big city isn't all that friendly I suppose.

  • Opinions on Toronto depend on what part of Ontario you live in. Specifically, it depends on whether or not you live in Toronto. Torontonians will tell you that it is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city and the centre of business, politics, and entertainment for the province. Everyone else will call it a gridlocked hellhole where shacks cost $1 million and is home to both the most embarrassing sports team in all of history and the most die-hard fanbase of any sports team in the world.

  • Oh, of course, some areas will have their insolent, impudent citizens, and others will be full of altruistic, friendly people, who just want to help you. I've seen the housing prices, school, bad and good parts, crime rates, and whatnot, but a personal opinion in full detail would be nice. I wouldn't care too much about their sports team lol

  • I live in TO and can tell you without a doubt it is full of people who literally only care about themselves and the bikers/pedestrians are even worse than the drivers.

  •
I wouldn't care too much about their sports team lol
Well trust me, Toronto does. So don't say anything bad about the Leafs unless you can run really, really fast.
