What use is it outside of PvP ? Well how about stopping your sorry butt from been sent back to orbit on a nightfall ?

If we're sent back to orbit, we deserve to be sent back to orbit. I have no problem with accepting that.

Well, for one you wouldn't be overly reliant on someone's ability to self-res and save the day, then we'd complete it first time regardless.

We all know the consequences of our actions on the fireteam, and how we rely upon each other to keep ourselves safe from dying. We don't need someone to tell us that, or rely that someone might have a self-res. I'm sorry, but you're not perfect (as you seem to portray yourself) and not in a position to be preaching to everyone else on how to play the game their way.
