We can:
1. make ridiculous unnecessary decisions in combat (fun)
2. Save our team from a total wipe during boss fights
3. Generate a shit ton of orbs for the team!

Out of those, I'd find number 1 perfectly acceptable, though I'd encourage you to try Radiant Skin because it's even more so.

I use radiant skin for PvP, a little more useful I agree.
