Running a team on nightfall. Dude saved our asses TWICE. A lot of selfressers do play as lone wolves, but not all. If its a crutch, it's a crutch for the whole team. I don't usually self res(I like cooldown reduction, but thats just me), but I have no prob with it; like nearly everything in this game, it can be useful if used right
