I use self-rez, but I will use it to prevent a wipe. Sure it can be used to pick me up when I'm down, but that also means that someone doesn't have to risk death to pick me up. It also means I can rush into a group of mobs that are attacking and pick someone up, die, self-rez, and then get out of the situation without risking the remaining members of the team.
If the team is getting overwhelmed, I can pop it and set the world on fire to give the team a minute to breath as well.
Consider it like using a Swiss army knife. One super, multiple uses. Not to mention that in CE I shit orbs because of my gauntlets, so in essence, I'm creating more orbs for my teammates than they are for me.
Every class and its subclass has it's use in the game. Stop with the class bashing and work together with the community instead of against it.

You know what's better for preventing wipes? Making your team play better by not enabling them to be complacent by running self-res. There's no class-bashing here. It's an urge to throw aside the crutch of self-res and embrace the possibilities. People relying on self-res is just not a good thing, especially when entire teams start to rely on it.

If you play in teams like that then you need to find new members. Playing recklessly regardless of your Super setup will result in a team wipe, or be a detriment to the team. Self-rez isn't the reasoning behind it. Good players can use it and not be a detriment to the team. Bad players will be a detriment regardless of what they use. Think of all the times that a team wipe could have been avoided because of a self-reviving Warlock wasn't on your team. I can think of a few times from my experience. Being able to self-rez is a tool, just like popping a bubble, throwing angry balls of space magic, or going invisible to get through to a checkpoint (which doesn't generate orbs, either). Being able to use those tools appropriately and at the appropriate time is the sign of a good player. It's also a really good tool when you are a man or two down in the VoG.
