I use self res when I might be required to put myself at risk. I find it as a really good team role.
There have been countless times where I have needed to defend both middle and help with left or right confluxes in vog and it means that I can put myself at risk for the better of the team.
Also, self res warlocks are the best to carry any relic. You are getting smashed by really hectic enemies. If you drop the relic someone needs to leave their post. If I have self res, no one needs to worry.
Can you honestly say that self res would not have helped you out at any stage? I call rubbish if you this that it is never needed and that you can go through every raid with out ever having to wipe.
It is useless in crucible though, I will give you that. Void walker all the way in pvp.

I'm a Hunter and I have no problem with the Relic, or the Sword.

I use Radiant Skin when I'm required to put myself at risk. It makes you practically unkillable. A relic holder should never be dying. I'd rather someone who knows enough to not die with it - there's absolutely no time in the game where a relic holder should be in real trouble* *the exception being stuck with bad teammates when teleported by Atheon. If the oracle-killers aren't helping the Relic-holder when needed, it's their fault, not the relic-holder's. Of course I've wiped in the raid - often. However, I can think of one (and only one) example where self-res stopped a wipe: playing hard VoG for the first time, made it through the confluxes with four people left and everyone died on the final wave of legions. The warlock was able to res and hide. But then, if he'd been using Song of Flame, we'd have all been a lot more powerful and would have had an easier time fighting off the legions.

You know you don't have to fight the legions right?
