Warlock self-res is a crutch for the weak.

Warlock self-res is a crutch for the weak. Seriously. What use is it outside of PvP? That's right - people who struggle to stay alive can have a second chance at dying again. Give me a Warlock whose build is based around staying alive any day of the week. A Warlock using self-res is basically waiting to die. They're holding the rest of the team back. They don't generate orbs unless they die. They don't activate supers unless they die. They're basically a drain on DPS and team strategy/cohesion. If you're a Warlock with self-res, you're letting your team-mates down. When recruiting for Raids, I ask people if they use self-res and then turn them down if they say yes. I want my Warlocks to be team-players, not people concerned only about themselves.
It's not really any use in PvP either.
Edit: apologies if I've stopped replying to someone in particular, this forum makes it impossible to look through everything and keep up with every conversation. Edit 2: Next week on Ackter Provokes: The Gjallarhorn and how if it was suddenly removed, 99% of players would no longer be able to beat anything!

  • And yet warlocks with self res can pull off the many glitches that makes the game easier for the team.

    • The build of the warlock player should be appropriate to the situation. For example - VoG hard raid it is entirely appropriate to have self res so that in the event of your death, and I'm sure you die in the raid just like everyone else, you can return and continue to help the team. Crota battle, however, death not only inconveniences everyone but can interrupt key moments in the battle by generating an oversoul. At this point coming back doesn't ease the situation, besides adding DPS to the OS, so playing in a very safe manner to avoid being downed at all is more appropriate. In the first instance I will use Fireborn. In the second I would absolutely look to reduce my incoming damage when being aggressive to generate orbs. Your one size fits all attitude is a detriment to yourself and your raiding party. My attitude and my team mates' attitudes means that we are flexible and competent in a variety of situations. Every one person knows that changing their load outs is required for different activities.

        • I don't see why everyone hates on the self revive. I'm saving fireteams. I don't see the issue with running into a crowd of people blowing up a bunch of people, dying, reviving, blowing up more people, then getting back into position

          • Lets see...Self rez when the rest of the team is dead. Prevents the wipe and while you are burning with the force of a thousand suns and respawning your dead team, the moment they pop back into existance radiance is now reducing the cooldown times on all of their abilities as well. Sounds like a pretty damn supportive roll to me. Flame shield from melee attacks and if there is a smart titan in the group then a bubble shield will be coming down shortly from all the melee orbs I just dropped for him to further aid the team and get us back on track.

            • So explain what I do: I die on purpose sometimes. I go out and revive teammates putting myself at risk, and usually dying in the process just to save a teammate, then reviving myself.

            • If you're using Self Res anywhere other than a raid, you're wrong. And that's barely permissible.

Dear confused OP, This may come as a surprise to someone of your grandeur, but I'll do my best to explain it in a way a five year old could grasp. Video games, with Destiny not being any exception, are meant to be played for entertainment. Entertainment is this big word we adults use to explain what FUN is (ya know F is for friends who do stuff together?). If you have never experienced the raw adrenaline it is to save an entire raid crew in the last few seconds of hope, then you have no room to talk (and I feel bad for you, because it is so badass). Not everyone has the same skill level or the time or the patience to tackle the muscle memory mechanics of each and every aspect of the content in this game. Wanna know what else OP? Connection error? Don't worry, lock's got your back. Unexpected lag spikes? Pfff guess what I've been saving my GD super for... Someone's kid needs an emergency diaper change? Just tell me when... Why? Because my super is worth the manpower of 2 players instead of one. What OP needs to consider is that playing as a warlock with self res is actually one of the more selfless things one could do in PvE. Seems to me like the trigger pulls of your weapon can't satisfy protecting your team enough... otherwise you wouldn't be complaining about wipes...

              • Obviously you have played with some people who pissed you off. Otherwise you wouldnt have bothered with this thread. Im a warlock who does put on self res when it is needed. There are a few situations that ill explain. 1) Crota Raid Traversing the Abyss: If your group, including yourself, have trouble staying alive on the bridge pad a self revive might be your saving grace. A warlock and titan unlike a hunter have supers, nova bomb and fist of havoc which do not last longer than 8 seconds. This makes the self revive a long term back up used to "possibly" save a team in a situation where a teams fire power or teamwork fails. 2) Vault of Glass (majority of raid): Running with a team that has insufficient fire power, or experience, can put a lot of pressure on players. Sometimes it gets the better of you as you attempt to bite off more than is possible. Sometimes youre forced to carry a team in situations that no class using any super will last to the end. This gives a warlock an interesting choice. Use self revive and stay alive while completing your object, or run a super like nova or radiant skin etc and hope to pull it off. So while one could argue a team might last longer with a warlock creating orbs, most experienced warlocks are actually planning for the worst. Warlocks who die a lot, or you could just say are playing more casually, should use it so we can keep them in the game.

                • To be honest, my self res makes me stronger most of the time because I do not have to fear dying, so if I'm out racking up kills and don't have to turn and run when I'm weak, allowing me to get more kills. But that's just how I play using it.. But you probably don't die because you sit in the back sniping, while your team mates do all the dirty work, then you panic Titan slam a dreg or two to create some orbs.

                    • Lolol youve obviously never ran nightfall Its really useful for the first part of crotas end, if a teammate falls and my radiance is active, ill go back to pick him up and dont have to worry about being a liability to my team

                    • To address 1 thing first : it's sh*t for pvp imo, you would rather take something that gets you kills over preventing death in most scenarios. But as for the rest , I don't play as a warlock but I find your post pretty ignorant and narrow minded. Playstyles vary depending on your class/subsclass , that's how it should be. If your a fragile hunter who has to play a cautious cat and mouse game or a Sunsinger who can go agressive and tow the line, everyone has their role to play and times when they are effective. The Ability itself is not what makes someone weak. If someone is weak, it's inspite of the ability.

                      • People who use it poorly are bad, I use self res in raids all the time but if the time feels right I'll still pop my super, like if I see enough orbs to immediately get it back or early in a boss fight to get the orbs going for others. People who hold it endlessly are nubbing it but if you know when it's safe to use your super and when to hold onto it then it's definitely still helpful

                          • A crutch makes things easier, if you're so elite why have a problem with someone building thier character to make things easy? They sacrifice orb making but when your fireteam wipes on nightfall because u got stuck on a rock they save the entire team. Personally I think res is less fun. I don't think self res is a crutch, it's a sacrifice for the team.
