PETITION: VoG weapons at 331. Raids shouldn't be rendered irrelevant.

1500+ up votes 3000+ replies [You guys came up with so many great ideas. I really wish Bungie had a look at the comments here.] Come on, Bungie, give us the freedom to choose whatever suits our style best and don't let those awesome weapons you've designed become obsolete. Actually, don't let the stunning Vault of Glass (best content in the game) be consumed by the darkness. I believe that Raids and its weapons should always be the at level cap. More weapons to choose from, more content to play. Weapons are mostly situational and mixing them is part of a successful strategy (it's fun too). Having more to choose from just add to the game. Edit: I'm not suggesting to automatically turn them into 331 attack weapons. Just give us a way to upgrade them to the current attack cap. I bet you guys can implement it in a sensible way. Why would we go against the idea of having more relevant weapons at our disposal? It's like saying "I'd rather have less weapons, less content". Let's not be passively attached to an old format. Destiny is something new with immense potential. ===================== Some great comments Bungie should pay some attention to: AJIc3CoLd said: "But what they decide to do with VOG weapons speaks to the future of the current raid weapons as well. Right now, there is an expiration date on my Fatebringer and that sucks, supremely, but now that same feeling isn't too far for my Black Hammer either. I'd like to carry these weapons with me as long as I am playing Destiny. Yeah, future weapons maybe better and I end up scraping these guns one day but I'd like to be able to decide for myself versus having no choice in the matter. Just my take on the situation". JoshLags said: "The problem lies within the way they have designed the upgrading system. They are going to have to re work how you upgrade weapons and armor. Yeah they could just update the VOC gear up to 32 and 331 but what happens when the House of Wolves comes out? Then they are going to have to update both Dark Below and VOC all over again the prevent them from being obsolete. They need to just make it were the players can choose the path they want to take. You choose what armor and weapons you want to upgrade to the highest rank. I mean make it a difficult task. I wouldn't mind the challenge and it would inspire players to be more creative with their characters rather than every single person wearing the same gear". DE4THINC4RN4TE said: "Upgrading older legendary weapons could finally give a use for the Gunsmith beyond buying ammo and weapons at a low level. Not to mention it would help provide a larger variety of "good" weapons so that we would have more things to work towards. After all the various DLC's are done, just imagine how varied the weapon and armor selection would be. (Speaking of which, vendors should be able to upgrade armor as well.)"

This is based on LaZy's feedback, where he suggested that the upgrade for weapons require DLC materials, but what if we took that a step further? In TDB, you have Eidolon Ally, which can be upgraded to Necrochasm once you obtain Crux of Crota from the current endgame raid, CE, on hardmode. What if the same was done with all raid weapons? As it stands now, raid weapons can still be used timelessly within Crucible, but are attached to DLCs and are finite for use in PvE content. A way to make them just as "timeless" in PvE but still encourage participation in all PvE content, including the current, the one before, and the core content/raid, Bungie could offer a way to upgrade the weapon's attack to the current DLC's weapons in a similar fashion to Necrochasm. I will use CE as an example, but this would also be true for future raids: You have an "outdated" weapon you still love and use, Vision of Confluence, and you wished you could make it more up to date for PvE (lets pretend VoC is two DLCs behind and very low in attack). You already sport it on PvP, since it's one of your favorite Scouts to fall on. You run CE hardmode, and you get lucky enough to get a Crux of Crota, but you have no intention of using or care for Necrochasm. However, if you talk to Eris, you are able to turn in that Crux and the VoC you so much love for a new version of VoC. This new version has a different name (e.g. "Vision of Crota" or "Vision of Confluence II"), and now require new materials (aka Radient Energy) to cap at 331 (not 339). This way, people who want and love VoC now and for DLCs to come will run both the current and past contents to get an up-to-date version of it, and people who don't care and just want to skip to end game (as they would now), would just run CE. I understand that the RNG is strong behind this, but it provides a time sink that some players are willing to go through, as well as a way to add variety to the firearm Destiny has to bring and make the weapon as timeless in PvE as it is in PvP. Perhaps it is too early to see the point of adding this now, as we only have one, barely two to be, DLCs, but I can see it working in the future. I can totally see people wanting to do this for Abyss Defiant and Black Hammer, for example.
EDIT: TLDR = read bold parts.
• An Extra Hard mode should be introduced, Exactly the same mechanics but at level 33. With this raid you can get the drops at level 32/331 (Normal & hard still drop old gear). For upgrading current Weapons/armor every raid completion drops one VoG commendation which has the ability to upgrade your old level 30/300 gear to 32/331. This means its not an instant jump for everyone with lower level gear when the expansion comes but also keeps the old raids relevant. You could also add the delay we've seen for the crux just to make sure we don't see people leveling up quickly with commendations or/and make commendations armor/weapon specific.

How about they keep the basic raid with the default weapons, but they have a second hard version of each raid that scales with each DLC and gives weapons with according stats?

I have a grand total of three VoG completions and exactly zero VoG weapons and I agree with this.

    • Yes they should become obsolete. Makes they new raids necessary to get good weapons. Old raid weapons fall by the wayside just like shadow price and the devil you know.

    • 4,000 comments here's the problem. You're asking for something for free. If they up the stuff in vog then people who bought the vanilla game don't need the dlc to catch up. This idea will never happen. Not unless it costs $ from our own pockets.

      • Bump. Want to say that all 300 level weapons be given a pathway to 331+. Some of the best weapons the game has ever seen were 300. Take shadow price and swarm for example. Those masterpieces should not be left to rot in the far recesses of ones vault.
