No. Sony parent corporation and Microsoft are two very different companies that happen to have a slight overlap in video games. Microsoft is a software dev (nutshell) and Sony makes AV hardware, cameras, speakers, etc.

Basically, what Gibson is saying is that Sony Corporations is made up of subsidiaries that operate in very different industries. Sony Pictures, Sony Music, Sony Electronics, Sony Computer Entertainment... If they were to sell the computer entertainment branch, it doesn't affect the others. On another note, PlayStation and Xbox appear to be the only consoles with the only viable performance capabilities for newer games, so if Sony were in any way to lose their gaming arm, it would, in my opinion be a monopoly...
