So are the scenes from Halo: Origins considered cannon?
If so; why does the Gravemind give chief a data chip? Similar to Cortana's?

Cortana is entering the early stages of her rampancy at this point. The images we see are incorrect or corrupted approximations of Cortana's understanding of what occurred. Interestingly enough, the images we see seem to say more about the future of the franchise, instead of the past.

Well I mean that one guy used the scene of the ark to form a theory of a super weapon, however that may have been established already. I was thinking about it and it would be pretty cool if some of those scenes were hinting at what's to come in the franchise though.

The commentary for Legends says that they foreshadowed things that would happen in the future of the franchise. Funny enough, one of the commentators basically spoiled Halo 4's ending with Chief and Cortana, and Frankie stopped talking. Can only imagine he was giving him the death glare XD.
