Do Crota-Kneelists deserve to get banned?

So this Thread clearly explains why the Networkglitch is in a whole other class than all the glitches/cheesing that did go on in the vault: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/85926505/0/0 FYI: At least three persons already got banned Edit:Bungie updates stats on Crotacompletes https://twitter.com/bungie/status/546107092885446656 Inb4 Banhammer EDIT: For all the Naysayers that say Bungie/sony couldn`t possibly distinguish between a random and a deliberate DC. 1.Lets just assume that there is a time-window of 5 seconds around the point where Crota kneels down to dc on purpose and use the glitch. 2.Let`s further assume that on average the ServiceProviers are reachable for 90% of the time (It`s actually more like 98%, but we will be very generous) 3.Since Crota has been “beaten” more than 160.000 times and a Raidteam consists of 6 people we will say: There are at least 1 Million chances to draw a disconnect during 2 hours (an average Raid takes this time). If we take the 10% from above we can say: 100,000 disconnects happened during all successful Crotaraids up to this point. So what is the probability that A DC happens randomly at the exact same time Crota goes down? Calculation: 2*3600/5 = 1440:= potential 5 second-time units of one single player during a successful raid 1,440,000,000= for all players Ergo The probability that a DC happens randomly at the moment where crota goes down for any Player is 100,000/1,440,000,000 = 6,94e -5 And for the special case that this DC concerns the Host: 1,16e -5 For comparison: The Probability of getting a Royal Flush in Poker: 2,57 e-5 Another Hopebubble busted by Math, sorry for that EDIT 2: I will also link to a prominent youtuber (Datto) that has the same opinion as the vocal group of "It`s a cheat not a chesse" on this forum. Since he works closely with bungie you can be sure that in one way or the other Glitchers will soon befall a special "Destiny": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O30249lCy1c&t=4m47s EDIT 3: This is how a big banwave looked in Halo:Reach (2010) courtesy of Bungie
Good evening, We are in the process of applying credit resets to approximately 15,000 users who we have identified as the most egregious Challenge Reset abusers. A one day credit earning ban has also been applied, mostly to ensure that recipients receive an in-game notification of the action taken. As with any such measure, we have taken the time to carefully select our criteria to eliminate false positives. A more comprehensive pass will be occurring in the coming week as our automated Banhammer mechanisms grow accurate enough to satisfy our high bar for burden of proof. If you are thinking about getting an easy 50k credits by using this exploit, I would strongly advise you to reconsider. Thank you, and please direct any discussion of these resets to this thread. Edit 1: a point of clarification. No bans were handed out tonight for a) Playing too much Gruntpocalypse (no such thing!) b) Using the target locator too much (no such thing!) Specifically, we targeted an exploit that allowed players to complete a Challenge 20+ times via intentional network manipulation (i.e., disconnects.) Spot checks have revealed the telltale signature of this behavior on every denier so far, so don't be fooled by the protests of innocence. We aren't. Edit 2: 1) If you have lost your Legendary Helmet or any other downloadable offers, you can re-download them via your Download History. We're not sure this is affecting anyone (we haven't reproduced it internally), but just in case it is, give this a try. 2) We won't be resetting Commendations, as we do not feel that the exploit used affected them. It would not be fair to people who did use the exploit but who wish to retain the record of their playstyle, and we cannot differentiate between the two systematically. Sorry. --- Cheaters, be wary of the Credit Reset!
Source EDIT 4: Cheaters have officially gotten a Carte Blanche from a Studio that is a shadow of its former self Bungie does not kick ass any more. I was a fool and the cheaters have taken over. I will now make a thread to suggest to ban anyone in the future that tries to make a thread about banning someone. Bungie clearly voted for the quick buck. I hope they will live happily ever after with you and your kind. Signing out ;-)

  • Just to point out, those ToC's apply to all exploits and glitches, which means there'd only be three people left on the Xbox and that's only because they hadn't played a game yet.

  • I just hope they patch it before hard mode drops.. I don't want teams that can't be at him on normal to be able to get hard mode drops from just cheesing it.. That's where I draw the line.. Cheesing crota after you have already spent days learning how to do it the way it was supposed to be played is fine, but once you know how to beat him normally you will quickly realize there is no need to cheese.

    • I think the people who do the Crota Kneeling thing should be banned. here's why:
Crota has Arthritis, what with him being so old, so his knees are kind of weak. you are effectively exploiting his ailment in order to beat him. in a Standing Swordfight, Crota has a far better chance of winning. it's really painful for him. and yet you guardians think you're the good guys... beating a bony, old Knight down to his knees... shame on you.
• I clicked no because of a few reasons. 1. They didn't do something client side to make this happen. Disconnecting isn't really cheating or hacking, even if it just so happens to lock the boss up in a vulnerable position. That's bad on Bungie's part for not play testing the raid before releasing it. Then again they wanted to drop it three month's into the game's life ... far too soon if you ask me but that's why it's such shit. Three months isn't enough time to pump out quality work, hence the rehashed missions and Eris's generic ( and degrading if you ask me, she's a -blam!-ing hero for Christ's sake ) position in the tower. 2. Nobody got banned over pushing the Templar and/or Atheon off the edges. Everybody knew the AI was coded to walk away from grenades so it was only a matter of time before someone tried it on a raid boss. You can't let one group slide and punish the other, not unless the DLC had explicit ULA warnings about exploits being ban-able. Then it's up to the person to decide if it's worth it or not.

If the game mechanics allow a guardian or fireteam the ability to cheese any part of this game, it is bungies fault and totally acceptable until such time as they patch the game. The only ban should be to those who have manipulated the game code or console to have an advantage over other guardians

      • No, they shouldn't get banned. They found an exploit. Instead, Bungie should fix it so no one else can do it, and express appreciation for uncovering that "bug".

      • The sad part is that all people care about is loot. Not the raid. So once an easy loot farm is found people do it. I did it once just because I was pretty curious about it all and was shocked when I got it to work.

Yeah, let's ban the players who supported your game though buying the GAME and DLC. Banning everyone who glitches Crota will cause a major uproar. Then it's gg Destiny playerbase. Raiders are amongst the hardcore players who keep coming back and play week after week, always looking forward to gather more ppl and complete raids. Once u ban them, say goodbye to your committed playerbase. They will spread the word, and what you are left with are casuals who log in maybe just to check weeklys, then log out for a week.

              • So, in Halo Reach, there was "commendation farming" by starting a checkpoint, killing all the things, resetting. Bungie said it was completely legitimate to get your commendations that way since you were simply playing the game... Later on, there were folks who found out that disconnecting from the internet after completing daily challenges got you the rewards, but then allowed you to complete them again to get rewards repeatedly. This became a thing. The folks who directly manipulated their network (pulled their cords) were banned - the folks who farmed checkpoints were not. Soloing the raid? Not on the same level as dropping host (pulling cord/quitting app) to gain an advantage. One is ban-worthy and one is not. One is so very obviously wrong, and the other isn't. Cheesing the nightfall? Not on the same level as host resetting Crota. People attempting to justify it are placing themselves directly in the crosshairs of a potential ban. Bungie have done it before, and will likely do it again. Not worth the risk when it's easy enough to beat him the right way

                    • Fyi, someone said someone has already been banned. It is a lie. No one has been or will be. If they were to ban everyone who got disconnected, they would have to ban the entire player base. The recent round of bans were for modded consoles and came from Sony not Bungie.

                    • The ban cant be retroactive. They cant ban people for doing something we were not told we couldn't do. That being said, why hasn't bungie put a forum post online saying not to do it because it's an exploit and there could be consequences? Why is bungie avoiding discussing the exploit?

                      • It's one thing to exploit an ability to kill the boss with a weak method like throwing grenades to push them off. It's an entirely different frame of mind to purposefully cut your connection to glitch the game. I can't describe the number or level of frustration of players from glitches that would happen in the VoG, and people screaming for Bungie to fix their game, only to turn around and purposefully cause a very similar glitch the next raid. It's pathetic, if you can't do it right the first time, don't do it at all... Crota is not that hard, we have people soloing whole parts and a couple have managed to solo it completely. I'm not really impressed by solo runs, but at least they're not straight up cheating.

                        • No they shouldn't get banned. First it's bungies duty to clear out bugs and clearly their beta testers are not that good or not doing the job as some of the players here. I do hope these bugs get fix soon. I don't care much about the bug but it's boring to kill crota that way and it's not a hard boss to kill. I do hope that I can group with the same group I had last Tuesday and clear it the legit way since we did 3 runs in 3 and a half hours.
