Light level solution

So I made a post on another thread and was asked by several people to make my own thread on this to maybe get it noticed by deej/bungie. Some folks have been complaining about the light level system, in that it creates an environment where "customization" of characters is impossible if players want to reach max level/do endgame content. Basically players are forced to all look the same, with the same stats and perks, other than the exotic they (may) choose, as in order to reach max level they have to use the current raid gear. This same system makes any previous raid gear and exotics obsolete. I had an idea that might solve this problem. Allow players to use motes of light to upgrade armor and weapons. What I mean is that applying a mote of light to any fully upgraded piece of armor would increase it's light level by +1, up to the current maximum of light level and defense. This would allow any piece of armor to eventually become viable for the end game, and would thereby allow near limitless customization of our characters. Exotics and raid gear would still be superior, as they would have the best stats and perks, and they would not require motes to upgrade to max light. Plus when the next expansion hits, previous raid gear would not become instantly useless, as we could upgrade it to the new light cap using motes if we just like the look or perks of that particular piece. The same could be done with weapons, where motes applied would raise the attack rating, up to the current cap. Doing this would also reward xp gains, and encourage players to keep grinding xp to get more motes. Plus it would make what is right now the most useless currency in the game a sought-after commodity. You could even make it require several motes (ie 3 motes to create one shard of light or something) to create a single incremental increase in light/attack rating if you are concerned about players leveling their gear too quickly. I have ideas on how this could actually work in the UI for the armor and weapons, but I'll save my typing fingers for if this is well received. I personally think this would be really cool, as you would see all kinds of crazy combinations out there, and it would allow us to be way more creative with our builds. I don't think this devalues any of the raid gear or exotics, as it would take a lot of work to upgrade older or lower level gear to their level, with the raid gear and exotics still holding the edge in stats and perks. And it would certainly make the world of destiny a more diverse and interesting place, particularly at the endgame.
