Honestly I'm surprised any good quality sets still have this issue. My Sony and Samsungs have options for auto pixel adjustment that moves pixels around on an undetectable level to keep burn in from occurring. I think the opacity slider from battlefield is probably meant more to see the actual action and not so much meant for burn in prevention, but probably ended up being a positive side effect they discovered. I've never heard of a game addressing this, as it's a hardware issue.

  • I always thought interface opacity was just for the sake of being able to see stuff. lol Cause I always keep it real low in stuff like Minecraft. I had a plasma for a long time and the Minecraft and Halo Reach HUD would get burned in, but after a while it just went away and never mattered. Games where a map would be in one spot for hours would burn in, and then just be gone later. Don't know why it's so bad for some people.

  • Yeah, I was gonna say, I thought newer plasmas had burn-in protection technology built in.

  • My plasma had the same feature (which you didn't even notice it happening); so I had zero long term burn in.

  • Definitely weird in that case. That sucks man, nothing worse than being someone who appreciates quality tech and having something go wrong with one of your prized possessions :(

  • Exactly my feeling, thanks for your quality post. My set also has, "Pixar orbiter" which is meant to prevent burn-in. I fear the HUD icons are simply too thick for the slight moments of the feature to effectively shift all the pixels involved.
