We all went in knowing that destiny was a 10 year franchise.

Edited by AMGS8: 12/14/2014 9:29:55 AMTrue, but if you were to ask the community, I'd imagine a good portion would say the way it was billed was that there would be one game with years of expansions such as WoW etc with paid DLC, which is definitely a model that could work. This was further reinforced by the sparsity of content compared to the earlier alpha and beta builds. 10 years worth? perhaps not, but 2 or 3 between sequel releases at least. The 10 year thing was supposed to be a commitment to the franchise, but looking back they were purposefully vague on exactly what that meant. In retrospect the involvement of activision should have shown us what was really going on & perhaps to some it did. As their funders with a binding contract Bungie have little choice but to go with it. Even the devs aren't happy with the game if you believe the word on the net, and considering Halo, considering how they've nailed so many core mechanics & considering most of the issues plaguing the game have to do with potential monetisation I can believe it. Also, it's all very well viewing the expansion as a raid add on & if you're happy with that great, & I mean that, but it wasn't priced at that point compared the the majority of the gaming business & that's another reason a lot of people are so angry. I'd imagine there's not a huge amount of people that can't afford the dark below, but there does seem to be a lot of people who realize if they buy it, that tells bungie and activision they are doing the right thing and we will keep paying well over the odds for next to nothing. If the DLC was £5-£8 instead of £20 that would put it more in line with expansions for other games that offer a similar amount of content. While that might sort out the cost vs return, all the dark below really offers, and this applies regardless of whether you actually bought it, is the flood gates opening on grinding gear upgrades we all already did. This is the opposite of progression really. It's a reset & start again. as I mentioned in another post, all they had to do was add on upgrades to existing fully upgraded gear. Make them harder to get even. Thats progression, taking where you were, and going from there to something new & better. By all means add new stuff, new armor, new weapons that do things we haven't seen before or in new or unexpected ways, I'd grind over again for that, but not for slightly improved versions of the stuff I already have.

Yes we did but, no one expected 1 game cut into pieces and dribbled out over that 10yr cycle.
