I wouldn't call the dlc an expansion (though it fits the theme of what destiny was going for). But I think the dlc is great. I don't get why people thought this dlc was going to be massively different then what we already have. Dlc is always more of the same. We got more story. About the hive. Through item descriptions, Eris, and grimiore cards. I'm not going to get into how they could have executed the story better. My point is we did learn more and the content actually plays apart of the current world instead of feeling like an off shoot a uh...side story if you will. Yes the characters could use more depth. Yes the info on the cards should be in the game. But at least for this first game the story isn't spoon fed. We are left hints and have to look for details and come up with our own stories. That's not going to be fixed or changed in dlc. It's really simple. If you enjoy destiny as is buy the dlc. If you aren't the dlc won't change anything for you. So don't get it.

  • Bungie called it an expansion, not me (http://www.destinythegame.com/expansions/expansion-one). The expanding is minimal. I agree the DLC was fun to play, but it was over in the twinkling of an eye. The story of Eris does feel like a side story. How does it relate to the main story?

  • I know what bungie called it. And I think that while its not correct it makes sense if they were marketing destiny as a mmo like game for them to call it that. Secondly because the hive are a threat in the story. And pointed out to be (or at least implied) to be a bigger fear then the fallen. We were given a new character that the dlc revolved around. The story missions pertained to her and her goals. Also because we have blades of Croat invading earth it strikes the presence that this Croat thing is important and here. The over arching story of destiny is about the several threats that you as a guardian must face to protect civilization. Hive are apart of this threat. By making a real character and making the hive threat seem real they expand on the story of the universe some. A side mission to me is the random tower missions you get from becons. And a few of the strikes. This dlc had a strike for everyone about omnigul. Since she is apart of story/ quest lines and the overall threat it didn't feel like an extra piece of content slapped in.

  • Fair enough. I can see how it relates to the general storytelling of Destiny. I was looking for a connection between the specific linear story and this DLC story. It still feels somewhat disconnected. Then again ... this is a post-modern world and we don't like meta-narratives and logicality. If they are going to call it an expansion in the MMO sense, then it needs to be more 'expansive'. MMO and RPG players are used to getting a lot more playable content for their money to make the grind an enjoyable experience (not just banal repetition).
