The problem with the grind is a lot of it is taken out of context in other games for why it works. Like farming raids in WoW... there's a week cool down because generally there are many raids, with many bosses in each one, and it allows you to tackle each one in 1/2 our increments doing a couple of bosses at a time. The week resets them. What do you have in destiny? A co-op mission that's a lot of fun that you can only do 1 time a week. There's no point to limiting the player in destiny to only being able to raid once a week. What about leveling up? Well there's a massively arbitrary amount of resources you need to level up. And I'm not sure if they changed it (I quit playing once game releases picked up) but there's tons of resources you need to invest in your items, and you don't get a lot... if any... by doing most of the normal things in the game. This isn't an mmo, and it shouldn't take 50 hours to level up an item. And its an FPS that's almost entirely designed on missions so having to go into this free roam mode to run around and pick stuff up, while encountering completely trivial enemies is a massively pointless time sync. Its really just a small hub between levels, so why they couldn't use these hubs for finding groups and diving into a strike is silly. The way the open worlds work right now is to artificially extend strikes and provide an area players can go farm. The tiers starting from lvl 20 to 26 strikes i think it was... are all the same. They could have done more to completely up the challenge, or extend the missions as you progress. Halo had skull modifiers for missions which could completely change the way you experienced levels. story... i don't need to go into this. Destiny has shooting mechanics better than pretty much every FPS I've played in the last few years. But the rest of the game is terrible. The loot mechanics are massively obtrusive, there's no point to the way they gated the raid, the open world is used ineffectively... and they didn't really invest in a lot of content. They just didn't think things through all the way, the game takes under 5 hours to complete, partially locked content, and a completely nonsensical pacing for progression. I can't help but think they wanted to release this with shortcut packs and someone slapped them and said that's suicide.
